Arguments from life and literature on the topic “What is cruelty”

The problem of the attitude towards cruelty of the younger generation and the answer to the question of what cruelty is, undoubtedly, is raised at the OGE in the Russian language in an essay-reasoning, for which arguments from life and literature are needed. Almost every one of us has heard about this terrible quality of human nature; many of us have experienced cruelty ourselves or seen how others are treated cruelly. What cruelty is, according to graduates, and what their attitude towards it is, should be expressed in written work. The Literary Scholar team has prepared several arguments from life and literature to help ninth-grade graduates in arguing their life position expressed in essay-reasoning 15.3.

Arguments from literature

  1. M. Gorky “Childhood”.

Maxim Gorky in his autobiographical story “Childhood” describes not only the bright sides of his childhood, but also those that he would like to forget about, but, unfortunately, he cannot erase them from his memory. The dark sides of Alyosha Peshkov's life are connected with the image of his grandfather Vasily Vasilyevich Kashirin. The boy was left without a father early on; his mother left him with his grandparents in order to improve her personal life. Alyosha spent his entire childhood in their house. He had only bright and warm memories of his grandmother, and his grandfather was a cruel, merciless man. He did not miss an opportunity to show his cruelty: the old man often beat his wife, a kind, merciful, hardworking woman, despite the fact that she was taller and physically stronger than him. Grandfather Kashirin, every Saturday, mercilessly flogged his grandchildren who, in his opinion, had sinned. Once he punished Alyosha so much for ruining a festive tablecloth that he lay flat on the bed without getting up for several weeks. The boy was sick for a long time from the beatings. The old man did not get along with his children either: the sons asked to separate them, often quarreled among themselves and with the old father; The daughter also did not meet with understanding from her father. Alyosha’s grandfather did not show mercy to his workers either. They never heard a single kind word from him, only rudeness, abuse, and suffered constant beatings from him. He explained his cruelty by a difficult childhood, when he was also beaten, humiliated and insulted. But neither the hero nor the reader wants to justify him, since a kind person does not allow his soul to become callous and rude even in the most terrible life circumstances. Kashirin’s cruelty is an attempt to assert himself and a manifestation of weakness.

2. L.N. Andreev "Bite".

A cruel person is cruel not only to humans, but also to animals. In the story by L.N. Andreeva tells about the ruthless attitude towards a simple mongrel, a stray dog. She saw no affection, no love, no joy in her life, but encountered only rudeness, aggression and human cruelty. Almost every passerby tried to kick her harder, adults hooted and whistled after her when Kusaka ran away from the children throwing stones and sticks after her. The dog stopped trusting people, began to be afraid of them, and on occasion could bite or bare his teeth, showing his teeth. Her life changed with the arrival of spring, when townspeople began to come to their dachas. They adopted the dog, gave it a nickname, and played with it the whole summer. Kusaka became kind again, because she didn’t have to worry about food, didn’t have to look for affection and warmth, she finally became home, needed and loved. She was ready to serve her masters for the rest of her life. But autumn came, the summer residents were getting ready to leave, and Lelya’s mother refused to take the homeless mongrel into the city apartment. Lele becomes so bitter that she leaves for the city without saying goodbye to her beloved. Kusaka is again cruelly betrayed by people. With their callous act, they caused her unbearable pain, which she expressed in her howl.

3. A.K. Tolstoy "Vasily Shibanov".

Name A.K. Tolstoy is known to a wide range of readers. His enormous interest in the historical past of Russia prompted the writer to write a number of talented works about historical figures. One of these works is the ballad “Vasily Shibanov”. It takes us back to the reign of Ivan IV, called the Terrible for his executions and atrocities. The author paints an image of a ruthless, despotic and infinitely cruel ruler. Bloody executions were followed by feasts, at which blood was also shed. Prince Kurbsky, a former governor and close associate of the tsar, fled from him to the Lithuanian state, fearing the tsar's wrath. Wanting to express his indignation at Ivan the Terrible and the whole truth about him, the prince writes an angry letter, which the eager Vasily Shibanov expressed a desire to deliver to the tsar. When he entered Moscow, the bells were ringing. The people were afraid of this sound, because most often the ringing of the bell summoned the people to a demonstration execution, in which the king himself always participated. The Moscow people prayed that at least a rare day would pass without an execution. After delivering the letter, Vasily Shibanov is subjected to severe torture. First, the tsar himself plunged the sharp end of his staff into the leg of the stirrup, and then, by order of the tsar, Malyuta Skuratov and his executioners tortured him. Ivan the Terrible wants to know all the details of Kurbsky’s escape, his secret connections, as well as the names of his friends. The executioners replace each other, not giving Shibanov a moment's peace, their torture is cruel and inhuman. The eager prince, unable to withstand these tortures, dies. The whole truth about Tsar Grozny, a cruel bloodsucker, despot and tyrant, is revealed to the reader.

Arguments from life

  1. The modern world is full of cruelty. When we turn on the TV, open a newspaper or open a page on the Internet, we hear or read messages about cruelty to loved ones, family members or animals. These stories are always terrifying in their inhumanity. I was deeply outraged by the incident that was written about on the social network. Wanting to get rid of the dog, its former owners took it, pregnant, into the forest and left it tied to a tree. The extreme cruelty of people whom the dog considered family, to whom she gave her love and loyalty is surprising. The poor animal was tied in such a way that she had no chance of getting to her feet, she could only lie down. No one knows how long she stayed there. Only when random people found her, by that time she had whelped and was lying among her puppies. The people who found her did not remain indifferent to her fate. They brought their living find to the veterinary clinic, where doctors diagnosed the dog as exhausted, dehydrated and under terrible stress. And the people she trusted continued to live peacefully. The cruelty and inhumanity of man, strange as it may sound, in the modern world goes beyond all norms, and it is our little brothers who suffer from this cruelty, first of all, who have not yet learned to act cruelly towards those whom they loved or love.
  2. Another case of cruel treatment of our smaller brothers was also described on one of the social networks. The owners, wanting to get rid of the dog, tied it up in the backyard behind the garage and forgot to feed and water it. Apparently they were waiting for the dog to die of starvation. Volunteers were informed about it by concerned neighbors who saw the dog in a deplorable state. All that was left of her was skin, bones, and even her eyes, in which there was inexpressible melancholy and pain. If the dog could speak humanly, it would definitely ask why it was being punished like this. Is it really impossible to get rid of it without causing such suffering and torment? Find worthy owners who would love her, take care of her, receiving in return dog devotion and fidelity. No creature can be such a reliable friend as a dog.
  3. Recently, almost all channels talked about a monstrous, inhumane case when a stepfather punished his stepson. An adult man, who should be a role model and protector for a little boy, put him on his knees in a corner on buckwheat, thus punishing him for disobedience and excessive activity. He considered this cruel method the most effective educational method. It is impossible to imagine what kind of suffering the buckwheat under his knees as a child caused the boy, what emotional experiences tormented his still fragile soul. It was impossible to turn around or seem to breathe without pain. When I listened to stories about this incident, I always wondered, where was the boy's mother? Why couldn't she stand up for her son? Why did she allow such cruelty towards her dear little one? In my opinion, she cannot even be called a mother. A real mother would rush like a hawk to protect her child, but this one exchanged him for some man who cannot even be called a man. This is a cruel tyrant, a despot, a stupid person who is not able to understand that through such suffering and humiliation it is impossible to raise a boy into a real man, a worthy person, because little people learn from the example of adults.

Examples and preventive measures

Authors of different periods in their works touched on the topic of rough treatment. It is important to take the right path of correction in time and not be cruel to living beings.

Literary illustrations

In the story “The Overcoat” by N. Gogol, the mockery and humiliation of Akaki Bashmachkin by his colleagues is clearly visible at first. A man cannot fight back and does not react to bad jokes. Approaching his cherished goal - buying a new overcoat, Akaki saves money, denying himself everything. Subsequently, the inhumane act of the thief destroys all hopes. The overcoat is stolen, but Bashmachkin fights for his thing, turning to his friends for help.

The situation is aggravated by the fact that everyone refuses the main character and does not strive to find the loss. The attitude of others subsequently leads to the death of the hero. According to the author, “indifference is considered the highest rigidity .

In Turgenev's story "Mumu" cruelty is manifested in Lady Gerasim. A woman does not care that, by taking the life of a harmless creature, she inflicts moral pain on her subordinate. When Gerasim drowns his beloved dog, he is not considered a cruel person. The order for the murder is given by the lady.

In Lermontov's novel A Hero of Our Time, Grigory Pechorin shows his cruel feelings by humiliating the young cadet Grushnitsky for the sake of his own greatness and amusement. Pechorin also makes Bela fall in love with him and then leaves her. The main character of the novel amuses himself by torturing others, causing suffering.

Pushkin A.S. touches on this topic in the novel “Dubrovsky”. The two main characters, friends Kiril Troekurov and Andrei Dubrovsky, are quarreling. Due to pride, arrogance and cruel behavior, Kirila did not apologize to his friend for the insults, but began to take revenge. Thanks to his connections, Troekurov deprived the impoverished Dubrovsky of his last estate. The embittered and cruel Kiril does not care about the future place of residence of his former friend, he shows his superiority and greatness. Andrei Gavrilovich cannot come to terms with the betrayal of his comrade, and soon falls ill and dies.

An example of heartlessness is manifested in the work of I. S. Turgenev “Fathers and Sons.” For Evgeny Bazarov, his own pride and beliefs are important. He treats his parents coldly and, after a long separation, does not pay them due attention, thereby offending them. This is unfair and cruel to the parents, because at the end of the novel, only the father and mother mourned Eugene’s death.

Ways to fix

The state of mixed rage and helplessness requires psychological therapy, as over time it leads to psychosomatic disorders (mainly of the cardiovascular system) and disrupts the social interaction of the individual. A person becomes indifferent and does not realize the gravity of his crimes, not understanding who is being harmed.

The most terrifying reason for heartlessness in terms of its consequences is the desire for revenge for the pain suffered. The danger is due to the fact that a person chooses the most painful and terrifying options for dealing with the offender. A similar thing happens when personal pain within has destroyed all remaining emotions and leads to madness.

A person brought up in inhumane conditions considers this the norm, a manifestation of love. Correcting such a worldview requires considerable effort and time and is not always successful.

Much attention is paid to overcoming hostility and aggressiveness as one of the main social problems in the world. Various psychosocial technologies are being created aimed at preventing human aggression, measures that can resist inhumane treatment. In today's Russia, preventing atypical, cruel behavior of children and the younger generation is an objective necessity.

Stages of preventive measures:

  1. Studying the role of family, parents (type of upbringing and behavior).
  2. Correction of mother-child relationships.
  3. Developing a healthy lifestyle and personal resources.
  4. Building new correct human relationships, compassion and control over emotions.
  5. Establishing close contact with household members.
  6. It is important to separate and discuss dangerous situations, to trace good and bad deeds from childhood.
  7. Timely find out the reasons for severe aggression.
  8. Emotional support for self-confidence.

A child should not withdraw and be afraid to have a heart-to-heart talk with a parent. Everything comes from childhood - the formation of character in adolescence, correct and proper behavior. It is important to identify the problem in time and find rational solutions.

Arguments from folk wisdom

  1. “A cruel person punishes cruelly,” says a Russian proverb. It says that a cruel person is cruel in everything, he even punishes inhumanly.
  2. “Neither a kind word, nor soft bread,” says the Russian proverb about a cruel person, from whom you cannot interrogate either a kind word or a soft word.
  3. “Even if you burn him, he won’t soften,” says a Russian proverb about a cruel person. Even if you burn him, he still won’t become softer or kinder.
  4. “A hard word obstinates, a soft word humbles,” says the Russian people. A cruel word more often pushes a person to respond to rudeness, and a soft, kind word can humble.
  5. “Do not admonish those who are cruel in heart, for an iron nail cannot pierce a stone,” says a Russian proverb. She notes the peculiarity of a cruel heart: no matter how much you persuade it, it will not become softer and kinder. Just as you cannot drive an iron nail into a stone, so a cruel heart remains indifferent to the manifestation of compassion and mercy.
  6. “It is better to endure than to offend others,” says a Russian proverb. It contains the following meaning: cruelty is one of the worst qualities of a person’s personality, therefore our ancestors believed that in order to remain a kind, decent, merciful person, it was better to endure yourself than to offend others.
  7. “On good soil, thistles will become wheat, on bad soil, wheat will grow as thistles,” our ancestors said in a Russian proverb. They noticed that even weeds on good soil become wheat, and on bad soil even wheat grows into thistles. Like them, kindness can work miracles, and cruelty can kill the best endeavors.
  8. “Human venom is equal to ten snake venom,” says a Russian proverb. According to our ancestors, human cruelty is worse than the poison of ten snakes. Even these cold-blooded reptiles are not as cruel as humans can be.
  9. “Whoever sows the seeds of evil opens the gates of his own destruction,” says a Russian proverb. She argues that a person who shows cruelty opens the gates of his own destruction. All the best feelings perish in a cruel person, and he himself dies morally.
  10. “To be angry is a human thing, but to remember evil is a devilish thing,” the Russian people believed. In his opinion, a person can be angry, this is characteristic of human nature, but remembering evil is devilish. A kind person will not keep insults and atrocities in his memory.

Essay on the topic of what cruelty is

(5) We really loved going to the lake. (6) Zhenya and I fished all day long, but in the evening we were unable to fish because of Ryzhukha. (7) In the evening Svetka takes a boat, rows it alone into the middle of the lake and begins to howl. (8) Or rather, she sang, but we didn’t call it singing. (9) Ryzhukha’s high-pitched voice could be heard far across the lake, and we stopped pecking... (Y) Ryzhukha howled for an hour and a half, and if it seemed to her that some song was not very successful, she started it again and again. (II) “You stupid redhead,” Marinka Bykova curled her lips. (12) - Why is she messing around with us? (13) I would howl at home. (14) And Ryzhukha’s voice continued to be heard, and there was something in it akin to grass beginning to grow, light cirrus clouds, warm air... (15) For some reason, it never occurred to Zhenya and me to talk to Svetka like a human being, to ask so that she doesn’t sing over the lake and spoil the fishing. (16) Maybe she didn’t know what was bothering someone. (17) On the day of the last exam, Ninka Pchyolkina arranged for those interested to register for the next trip. (18) Zhenya approached Ryzhukha and said: (19) - Ryzhukha, do a good deed, huh? (20) Don’t go for a walk with us! (21) “I’ll go with you,” said Redhead in a high, trembling voice, “but I’ll be separately.” (22) Again, separately from everyone else, he will howl on the lake! (23) Zhenya walked away from Red and whispered to me: (24) - I won’t let Red on this trip, or I won’t be me. (25) He looked triumphantly at Svetka, as if he had already fulfilled his promise... (26) On a warm June day, we settled down on the deck of the ship. (27) The redhead was sitting on the edge of the bench, next to her there was an empty space, because no one sat next to her. (28) A minute before setting off, Zhenya approached Ryzhukha. (29) - Is this your bag? - Zhenya asked and nodded at the antediluvian bag, which probably contained sandwiches with margarine and eggs. (30) “Mine,” answered Svetka. (31) - Hello hop! - Zhenya exclaimed, grabbing the bag, he ran along the deck with it, and we heard him shouting from the pier: (32) - Hey, Red! (ZZ) There's where your purse is! (34) Zhenya put his bag on the floor and rushed back. (35) The redhead sat and sat, looking lost at the floor, then she jumped up and headed out: she probably felt sorry for the sandwiches. (Zb) I barely made it to the shore: the ship immediately set sail. (37) Zhenya waves her hand to Svetka and yells: (38) - Goodbye, Red! (39) You can’t go to the lake, you’re scaring away the fish! (40) The girls shout in disgusting voices: (41) - Goodbye, friend! (42) - We won’t see you again! (43) And let’s praise Zhenya for how he arranged it so cleverly with Redhead... (44) To be honest, I didn’t understand why the girls were happy. (45) After all, Ryzhukha was not with everyone else - it’s not for nothing that she is not in any photographs. (46) She wandered alone through the meadows, sat alone by the fire when everyone had already gone to their tents, ate what she took with her from home. (47) At the beginning of the trip, she laid out her supplies on the common table, but Marinka Bykova disdainfully pushed her bread with margarine and eggs to the side... (48) The ship had not yet really left the city, and we had already forgotten about Ryzhukha. (49) Only at the evening dawn did I remember about her, and something unpleasant rushed into my heart. (50) But no one on the lake made any noise, the bite was excellent, and Zhenya was especially animated. (51) But this “something” prevented me from rejoicing... (52) Red didn’t go to tenth grade. (53) The class teacher said that she entered the music school. (54) And five years later I started studying at one of the St. Petersburg universities and met Natasha, who took me to the Mariinsky Theater to the opera. (55) In the first minutes of the performance, a luxurious golden-haired beauty with the whitest skin and noble posture appeared on stage, and I could not take my eyes off her. (55) When she sang in a high, surprisingly familiar voice, I instantly broke out in a sweat. (57) - Redhead! - I gasped. (58) - You understand, this is Ryzhukha! - I shout to Natasha in a whisper. (59)—We studied in the same class! (60)—What are you saying?! - the friend was alarmed. (61) - Do you understand who this is? (62) This is our rising star! (63) - What is her name? — I asked, hoping for something else. (64) - Svetlana Sergeeva. (65) I sat through the entire performance without moving, not understanding what was more in my heart - delight or shame. (66) After the performance, Natasha suggested: (67) - Maybe you should go backstage? (68) She will be pleased to see her classmate. “No, let’s do it another time,” I answered modestly. The last thing I wanted was to meet Redhead face to face. On the way, rather listlessly, I told Natasha about Svetka, about how she sang on the lake. (72) Now I didn’t say that she “howled.” (73) - Wow! - Natasha was surprised. (74)—I studied in the same class with Sergeeva! (75) My authority in her eyes has grown significantly. (76) I didn’t listen to her well: I thought that Svetka was not the red one. (77) Svetka turned out to be golden. (78) And we are red. (79) The whole class is red. (According to E. Gabova) 15.3. How do you understand the meaning of the word CRUELTY? Formulate and comment on the definition you have given. Write an essay-argument on the topic: “What is cruelty?”, taking the definition you gave as the thesis. When arguing your thesis, give 2 (two) examples-arguments that confirm your reasoning: give one example-argument from the text you read, and the second from your life experience. The essay must be at least 70 words. If the essay is a retelling or completely rewritten of the original text without any comments, then such work is scored zero points. Write an essay carefully, legible handwriting. Option 1 Cruelty is a property of people who do not know pity or kindness. Hard-hearted people are unable to feel someone else’s pain or empathize with the sufferer. So, the girls, classmates of Svetka Sergeeva, “didn’t even want to touch her,” despised her for her “only worn jeans.” They could not even imagine what Red could feel at that moment when Marinka Bykova disgustedly pushed her “bread with margarine and eggs to the side.” Cruelty is also terrible because it has no boundaries. At a nearby school, three high school students beat a second-grader unconscious, who annoyed them with his thick glasses... Is there anything human left in these teenagers? That’s why people like them are rightly called non-humans: people behave differently. Option 2 Cruelty is a heartless, unkind, rude attitude towards people. A cruel person easily causes suffering to others, without thinking about how deeply he can hurt, how much he can offend. That is why Zhenya’s act from E. Gabova’s story can be called cruel (sentences 31-34). If the boy had thought about Redhead’s feelings for a minute, he would have realized that she wanted to go to the lake no less than the other guys, that tricking her into staying on the shore at the last moment was inhumane, but he didn’t care. He just didn’t want to spoil his vacation with her “howling.” I was also struck by the similar cruelty with which the schoolchildren in the film “Scarecrow” mocked their peer, Lena Bessoltseva, who took the blame for the cowardly Dimka Somov and thereby saved him from the reprisals of his classmates. As punishment, they insulted her, humiliated her, even beat her, considering themselves “fighters” for justice. Yes, it is scary to become an object of bullying from your peers. It's scary to be different from everyone else. But it’s even more terrible to find yourself together with the soulless majority, because sooner or later a merciless conscience will wake up and it will not give you peace. Option 3 Cruelty is a rude, inhumane, insulting attitude towards people. It is scary because it has many faces, from the cruelty of words to the cruelty of actions. In E. Gabova’s story, Svetka Sergeeva’s classmates gave her a humiliating nickname - Ryzhukha. They despised her not only for her appearance and high-pitched voice, but even for something that would have evoked compassion in a normal person - for her poverty (sentences 1, 4). And her classmates called her singing “howling,” and she herself, in their opinion, was a “stupid redhead.” The boys’ ruthlessness is also striking in the episode of expelling the girl from the ship (sentences 34-43). A whole class of soulless, cruel people! Is it possible that even when they become adults, they will remain the same? I would like all people to understand that cruelty is unacceptable in human relationships.

Aphorisms

  1. “Cowardice is the mother of cruelty,” said the French writer and philosopher Michel Montaigne. In his opinion, cruelty is born from human cowardice. Only a cowardly person is capable of demonstrating this low quality of his nature.
  2. “Cruelty cannot be the companion of valor,” said the Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes. According to the classic, cruelty will never be a companion to valor. Valor is generous, cowardice is cruel.
  3. “Cruelty always stems from heartlessness and weakness,” said the Roman philosopher, poet and statesman Seneca. He believed that only a heartless, evil, weak person is capable of showing cruelty. Through cruel actions he hides his cowardice and asserts himself.
  4. “The thirst for pleasure makes one cruel,” said Pierre Boist, a French lexicographer and philosopher. He said that a person who thirsts for pleasure is more capable of cruelty than others.
  5. “Cruelty is always the result of fear, weakness and cowardice,” wrote Claude Adrian Helvetius, a French writer and philosopher. Like many other famous people, he believed that cruelty is a quality that is inherent in weak, cowardly, and weak-willed people.
  6. “Human cruelty is disgusting,” said Russian philosopher Nikolai Berdyaev. He said that human cruelty is one of the most disgusting qualities of a person. A cruel person loses his human appearance.
  7. “Cruelty must be responded to with cruelty. Non-resistance to evil through violence has its own charm, but it plays into the hands of scoundrels,” the French writer Andre Maurois was convinced. He argued that cruelty should only be responded to with cruelty; all other methods benefit only vile and unprincipled people.
  8. “Cruelty to animals is only the first experience of the same treatment of people,” said the French writer, traveler and thinker Jacques-Henri Bernardin. He believed that a person who is capable of showing cruelty towards animals will later show cruelty towards humans.
  9. “I think the only quality worse than hardness of heart is softness of brain,” said American politician Theodore Roosevelt. He said that cruelty is the worst human quality; the only thing worse than it is human stupidity.
  10. “Tears do not touch a cruel person, but make them happy,” said the Roman mimic poet Publilius Syrus. He was convinced that a cruel person is pleased, and not touched by the tears of the victim.

Why is cruelty dangerous?

(376 words) Cruelty is part of human nature. People are often cruel and heartless towards each other, and they do not think about the possible consequences of their actions. But in vain, because a complete lack of empathy towards others can lead to very tragic consequences. To see this, let's look at examples from the literature.

Thus, in the play “The Thunderstorm” by A. N. Ostrovsky, the merchant’s wife Kabanikha is cruel to her family. She acts as a domestic tyrant, both for her own children and for her unloved daughter-in-law. She controls their every action. The boar can calmly insult any of them and just laugh at it. She enjoys her tyranny, considering it the norm enshrined in Domostroy. Kabanikha’s uncontrollable and therefore almost limitless cruelty leads to a terrible tragedy: poor Katerina, unable to withstand life under the pressure of a soulless merchant’s wife, rushes into the Volga and dies. His own son, distraught with grief, blames his mother for everything. But she doesn’t think about the consequences, and even the death of her daughter-in-law is indifferent to her. At the same time, she loses not only the submissive Tikhon, but also the rebel Varvara, who runs away with Kudryash. The danger of cruelty was manifested in its consequences: Kabanikha was left completely alone, her children abandoned her.

Another suitable example was described by A. S. Pushkin in the drama “Boris Godunov”. The main character killed the rightful heir to the throne to seize power. But he did not take into account the tension of the political situation, so he himself fell victim to his own cruelty. People knew who was responsible for the death of the prince, and did not allow the murderer to enjoy his reign. Everywhere Godunov was besieged by hostility; no one supported him. The boyars smiled in their faces, but intrigued behind their backs. Pushkin and Shuisky even kept silent about the approach of False Dmitry with the enemy army. Boris’s cruelty ruined his reputation, because every blessed person on the porch reproached him for his crime. Thus, the danger of cruelty is that the person who showed it will be shunned by people. His position, won at such a price, will be very precarious, since nothing will want to support the tyrant and despot.

Cruelty always has a detrimental effect on both its object and the person who displays it. It destroys the soul of the one it possesses, because the hard-hearted person has only the bestial desire to prove his power and strength. Sooner or later everyone will turn away from such people, they will not be loved or respected, because they can only inspire fear, nothing more. Cruelty, first of all, is dangerous because of loneliness, which covers a madman who has become a slave to his vice with a dark veil.
