Brief history and description of the Victory Day holiday on May 9
For more than 70 years, Victory Day in all cities of Russia, and in the whole world, has been a holiday that implies the victory of the Soviet state in the Second World War - the Great Patriotic War, and is also dedicated to the memory of all the heroes who died in its framework.
This day is great for any state and passes with memories and tears in the eyes of both veterans and ordinary citizens.
Celebrating victory in Russia, according to a long-standing tradition, involves a festive parade of military equipment and weapons, as well as a procession of the Immortal Regiment. The holiday connects many generations, and despite the fact that quite a lot of time has passed, we can still say with confidence that any information about the event that divided world history into “before” and “after” is important.
The article contains three short essays written on behalf of a high school student.

Victory Day through the eyes of children
The great holiday is Victory Day. We met with a WWII veteran in our school museum. The veteran told us a lot of interesting and informative things about the war years. The children listened to his story with tears in their eyes. Following this excursion, I asked the children to write an essay on the topic “May 9 - Victory Day.” Many children took this task seriously. Here are some wonderful essays, in my opinion, that the guys produced:
Shiryaeva Maria, 2B grade student
May 9 is the day of the Victory of our people over Nazi Germany. This is a victory in a terrible war that lasted 4 years, in which millions of innocent people died. Sometimes on May 9, my parents and I go to the Eternal Flame, to the parade and festive fireworks. And at the age of 4 I was invited to star in a film about war heroes who were born and lived in Ulyanovsk. I recited a poem about the Unknown Soldier and laid flowers at the Eternal Flame. At the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier the words are written: “Your name is unknown - your feat is immortal.” Words that say everything. I want to thank all the fallen soldiers and living veterans for the fact that we live in a peaceful and free country, and for the fact that my parents explained to me about the war for two days, but I still didn’t fully understand how scary it was. Thank you!
Bogatov Stanislav wrote:
A lot of time has passed since the Second World War ended. We know about it from books, broadcasts and stories of veterans. Our great-grandmothers and great-grandfathers were in the war. They saw a lot of grief. They were very scared, heavy and hungry. People lost loved ones and friends. And the enemies spared no one. For our sake, they went through all the horrors of war. For the sake of our future, they won.
The Victory Day holiday is both bright and sad. We defeated Hitler and the fascists. But we have lost a huge number of innocent people. On this day we remember them. And we give flowers to veterans. We remember them. Thanks to them.
Ilyina Maria writes about her family:
The Great Patriotic War ended a long time ago. On May 9, 1945, my great-grandfathers Vladimir Andreevich Arkhipov and Viktor Pavlovich Khudyakov ended this war. Grandfather Volodya was captured, and after escaping he fought again, was wounded and lost a leg. Grandfather Victor went through the entire war, but suffered a severe cold in his lungs and died very early. It was the most terrible war in which our people defeated fascism. May 9 is Victory Day. But this is not only a holiday of joy, but also a day of mourning for those killed in this war.
Ilya Egorov writes about May 9:
May 9 is a wonderful holiday, which is both sad and bright, because many people died defending our country. On this day many years ago, the army liberated our country from the Nazis. My great-grandfather Alexander Kuzmich Dementyev also defended our country. He went through the entire war. He had two wounds. I'm very proud of him. On May 9th I like to watch the parade on TV. On this day, a military band plays, all military personnel and veterans take part in the parade. A lot of different military equipment drives across the square: tanks, armored personnel carriers, missile systems, and airplanes fly. On this day we thank the veterans who defended our country.
Semyon Zhinov wrote about his ancestors as follows:
Victory Day is a great holiday. The whole country celebrates it. They remember those who died in the war and those who survived. There is a tradition in our family. We go to the 30th Anniversary of Victory Square, watch the parade, lay flowers at the obelisk. We have relatives who fought heroically for their Motherland. In 1941-1942, my grandmother’s grandfather and uncle died. Their names are carved on the board of glory in the village of B. Settlement of the Karsun region. These are Chekurov Yakov Illarionovich and Chekurov Nikolai Yakovlevich. I'm proud of my ancestors. It was they who gave life to us and our great Russia!
Essay for Victory Day “History of my country”
What do people in Russia mean by the concept of Victory Day? Of course, a huge number of words, one way or another connected with military operations, honor and respect for the elderly, as well as pride for the homeland and its children, who managed to defend Russian soil under the yoke of the Nazi army.
The war affected absolutely every Russian family, not sparing a single fighter. On this truly great day, there is a place for sorrow in the heart of every person.
But at the same time, we all cannot help but be pleased by the thought of Victory, which can fill the hearts of both the few surviving veterans and their descendants with joy. The peaceful sky above is definitely the merit of our veterans, who were ready to give and gave their priceless lives for victory and upholding the honor of the Soviet state.
I can note the fact that there are a huge number of artistic and musical works, films, performances that are dedicated to this event, and therefore immortalized in our history.
Essay on the topic “Great victory: legacy and heirs”
The Great Patriotic War is remembered by everyone. Even those who did not participate in it. Every Russian person knows about this tragedy. The most interesting thing is that over time they do not forget about it, on the contrary. Over time, all memories, documents and evidence that relate to these days are considered priceless. If the heirs do not remember and learn such a cruel lesson, then this will not threaten a bad grade. This will entail repeating the past.
For a Russian person, the word “war” means fear, pain, death. Moreover, the death is not of some abstract person, but of a brother, husband, father, grandfather. Unfortunately, in Soviet times there was not a single family where death did not occur. To this day, dead soldiers continue to be found and buried with honor.

Many people think that modern youth do not appreciate what their ancestors did for them during the Great Patriotic War. It only seems so. Just pay attention to the faces of modern girls and boys who lay wreaths on monuments, participate in rallies and meetings with veterans. Tears appear in their eyes and their lips dry out from grief. Because of bitterness, they cannot fully express all the words of gratitude to those who fought in those days.
These days, the number of heroes who are fighting in other “hot spots” is also growing. We should also not forget about them and thank them for the peace over our heads that they provide now.
It cannot be said that every soldier was prepared for such consequences and his death. There is no way to prepare yourself to become a hero. In addition to the military who protected us, there are also other participants in the war. For example, the Young Guards - Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya, Nikolai Gastello; pioneers - Dmitry Ovcharenko and others. You need to remember each of them and know what they did for the modern world.
Every skirmish in the Great Patriotic War shows the heroism and fearlessness of the Soviet people. Stalingrad, Leningrad, the Battle of Rzhev, the Kursk Bulge... Participants remember these battles as a nightmare that must be survived in order to win. Millions of people died so that we can now see clear skies, walk on free streets and have a bright future.
Based on the exploits of people in the Great Patriotic War, we can conclude that human capabilities are limitless. Not a single boy was specially prepared when he went to the front. He didn’t know how to do anything and was afraid, but he was ready to risk his life for the sake of his family, friends and future descendants. No matter how many years have passed since this terrible tragedy, we still need to remember our heroes and what they did for us.
Essay “Memorable Day May 9”
Victory Day is a holiday that commemorates the victory of the Soviet state and its allies over Nazi Germany. In our country, May 9 is celebrated very widely, and one might even say on a grand scale. It is on this day that everyone wears St. George’s ribbons, as it is a symbol of Victory.
There is no family in Russia that has not been touched by the fire of war. This holiday is a clear manifestation of the fact that all important events are in the language of the younger generation, which respects and honors our veterans. We can say that the essence of this day is to focus on the price of the victory of 1945, which left its mark in every home.
Every year in our country we look forward to the holiday, as it personifies the strength and power of the modern Russian state. On my own behalf, I can only add the idea that it is worth paying attention to veterans and their merits more than once a year for a short period of time, and this is a good reason to think about our values.
Mini-essay “How I celebrated Victory Day”
Victory Day occupies a special place in our family, despite the fact that many years have passed since this great and at the same time mournful event. For many years now, we have traditionally spent this day, following a certain algorithm, which in our family is not customary to violate.
In the morning, we go to the parade in full force, where we can fully see the full power of our state. After which my family and I, without changing traditions for several years now, walk in the column of the Immortal Regiment, saluting all those who fell in battle, as well as those who managed to survive this terrible long-term tirade.
The essence of our actions largely lies in the awareness of the damage caused to both global demography and the overall state of the planet in literally 5 years. It is not for nothing that many say that a person is a universal evil if he is allowed to show permissiveness and abolish punishment for the harm he has done.
I can promise that I will always remember the exploits of my compatriots, since a peaceful sky above our heads is all that our country and the world as a whole need at the moment.
