Vasilisa the Wise in the fairy tale “The Frog Princess” appears as a symbol of the ideal Russian woman - meek, wise, cunning, beautiful and thrifty.
At the beginning of the tale, she appears before readers in the form of an ordinary green frog. She was met by Ivan Tsarevich, who, at the behest of his father, went in search of his future bride. The king's son was very disappointed. Instead of a beautiful girl, he met a swamp creature. But he could not disobey his parent. So the Frog Princess, speaking human language, ended up in the palace.
Vasilisa's best qualities are revealed gradually. The Tsar Father gives serious tasks to his future daughters-in-law. They are difficult for a merchant and a boyar’s daughter. It would seem that such tasks are simply not feasible for a frog. However, the frog bride puts Ivan to bed and, turning into the beautiful Vasilisa, skillfully copes with all matters. She proves herself not only economical, but also caring. It is important for her not only to be on time, but also to please her future father-in-law.
Ivan Tsarevich begins to become attached to the frog, seeing its kind and sensitive character. But another test awaits them. The king calls everyone to a feast. Despite his warm feelings for his green bride, Ivan is worried and afraid of being ridiculed by his brothers. After all, now the time has come to show the external data of your missus. And if the frog showed itself at a high level on the farm, then in appearance it obviously lost. But everything turned out differently. Having created intrigue, the beauty appeared at the feast in all her superiority. To attract more attention, Vasilisa the Wise appeared late, accompanied by loud noise. This made her exit a real triumph. The cunning sorceress teased her clumsy daughters-in-law with her grace, encouraging them to copy her behavior. Against the background of their stupidity and simplicity, she looked even more magnificent.
Seeing his princess in such an unimaginably beautiful form, Ivan went mad with happiness and burned the frog's skin. But it was impossible to do this. Vasilisa had only three days to be in the form of a frog and the spell would have dissipated, but the prince’s stupid act ruined everything. But even in such a difficult situation, going into captivity with Koshchei, the wise Vasilisa did not reproach her lover. For the sake of such an ideal woman, Ivan Tsarevich was ready to go through any obstacles. He saved his beauty and they lived happily ever after.

One of the main characters in the well-known fairy tale “The Frog Princess” is a mysterious girl, where she was popularly named Vasilisa the Wise for her intelligence.
From the first pages of the work, we could not even imagine that a beautiful princess would appear in the image of a small frog who caught the prince’s arrow. Seeing how sad her betrothed became, seeing that he would get a reptile as his wife, she tried to calm her husband down with affectionate and warm words.
We see that she is very caring, because after putting him to bed, she thinks about how to help him cope with the sovereign’s assigned task. She works tirelessly for two whole nights to get everything done. And her hard work did not let Ivan down; the king was delighted with the baked loaf and the woven carpet, and for good reason, because she put her whole soul into her work. And the prince appreciates her work. He sees that he got an amazing girl with all the wonderful qualities.
At the feast, she did not allow her husband to be humiliated, she showed herself at her best, impressing the king and her husband’s brothers with her excellent knowledge and skills. By performing a magical dance with her husband, Vasilisa showed how strong their marital relationship is. Noticing that Ivan Tsarevich is destroying the skin of the frog, she does not blame him for what he has done, but sincerely believes that he will definitely save her from Koshchei the Immortal. That's what happens. Ivan, overcoming all obstacles, defeats magic and returns his only and beloved wife. Thanks to this image, folk legends showed us that a truly Russian woman must have all the best qualities in order to be worthy of her future lover.
The poetry of the fairy tale “The Frog Princess”
The main characters and the very plot of the fairy tale “The Frog Princess” help to educate them and introduce them to people’s aspirations and moral precepts. It is important that the Reader, when starting to study the fairy tale “The Frog Princess,” does not take a too easy tone, that the fairy tale is simple, accessible to children, and therefore all class activities can be reduced to its reading and retelling. To grasp “the general movement of the plot, to interpret the meaning of unusual situations”, to understand the idea of a fairy tale and the character of its characters, to “learn from a folk tale” “accuracy of speech”1, to be enchanted by the elements of a fairy tale - all this will be included in the tasks of three lessons that will be dedicated to this beautiful fairy tale
The reader draws attention to the fact that the fairy tale “Ivan the Peasant Son and the Miracle Yudo” is dedicated to the theme of defending the Motherland, a heroic theme. However, as we have seen, the theme of peaceful labor also resonates strongly in it. Another fairy tale, “The Frog Princess,” is dedicated to the glorification of creative work. That is why it is advisable to begin the story about it with the words of M. Gorky: “Already in ancient times, people dreamed of the opportunity to fly through the air - legends tell us about this... as well as the fairy tale about the “flying carpet.” They dreamed of accelerating movement on the earth - the fairy tale about “fast boots”... They thought about the possibility of spinning and weaving a huge amount of matter in one night, about the possibility of building in one night a good dwelling, even a “palace”, that is, a dwelling fortified against the enemy; they created a spinning wheel, one of the most ancient tools of labor, a primitive manual weaving loom and created the fairy tale about Vasilisa the Wise...”
The thoughts that permeate the text of the Russian folk tale “The Frog Princess” (don’t judge a person by their appearance, look deeper, evaluate people by their deeds, by their inner merits) also require familiarization with them even before the teacher reads the text of the fairy tale itself.
The retelling is a model for us. That is why it is important that the fairytale beginning (in a leisurely, melodious utterance), repetitions and ending, a description of the skill of Vasilisa the Wise, the ever-increasing admiration of Ivan Tsarevich and the Tsar for her work, a description of the Tsarevich’s difficult path to Koshcheevo’s kingdom and a description of the huge Koshcheevo oak are heard clearly. How does an artistic retelling turn out? The usual fairy-tale beginning is preserved. The dialogue remains, only it becomes somewhat shorter. It is advisable to leave the repetitions characteristic of the fairy tale when listing (“the elder brother shot the arrow”, “the middle brother shot the arrow”). The idea is emphasized about how long Ivan Tsarevich searched for his arrow compared to his brothers
It is important that the convincing request of the frog princess be heard: “Take it - you won’t regret it” - and the ending of the episode.
One day the king called his sons and said to them:

The king invited them to pull tight bows, where the arrow would fall, and there they would woo. That's what the brothers did. The elder brother shot an arrow and the boyar's daughter picked it up. The middle brother shot the arrow and the merchant's daughter picked it up. Ivan Tsarevich shot an arrow and the frog picked it up. The older brothers immediately found their arrows, and Ivan Tsarevich walked through the forests and mountains for two days, and on the third day he wandered into a muddy swamp. He looks and a frog-frog is sitting, holding his arrow. The prince wanted to run away, to give up his find, but the frog said to him in a human voice: “Take the arrow, Ivan Tsarevich, and marry me. You won’t regret it...” Ivan Tsarevich thought and thought, wrapped her in a handkerchief, and brought her to his kingdom-state.”
So, while working with the first episode of a fairy tale, you can ask us what and how changes if, instead of the words “In a certain kingdom, in a certain state, there lived a king...” we say: “In a certain kingdom lived a king...” or “In a state there lived a king..." Readers say that the beginning of the fairy tale has become less interesting, less mysterious, the rhythm and melodiousness have been disrupted. Continuing to work with the episode “How the Tsarevichs Wooed,” the Reader is invited to remember how long Ivan Tsarevich searched for his arrow, how he initially wanted to “give up on his find,” to “run away.” The reader will continue, develop and complement our answers. Indeed, the appearance of the frog princess frightened the prince, which is confirmed by his own words: “How can I marry you? People will laugh at me."
But the frog princess repeats her request for the second time: “Take it, Ivan Tsarevich, you won’t regret it!” The episode is unusually expressive and important for further understanding of the fairy tale. This is something for students to think about. What held the prince back? Why doesn't he leave? “The frog turns out to be extraordinary; it speaks with a human voice. This amazes and captivates the prince.”
The tests to which the king subjects his daughters-in-law help to convince themselves of the extraordinary merits of the frog princess. The princess immediately guesses that the prince is sad and tries to calm him down. Let us note how warm and caring her words are, how sincere her speech is; “Don’t worry, Ivan Tsarevich. Better go to bed and get some rest: the morning is wiser than the evening...”
During such a conversation, readers find out that the princess was attentive, kind, caring and modest (“She carefully asks the prince, immediately sees that he is saddened by something...”; “She calms him down, she herself thinks how to carry out the king’s orders, but for the time being does not tell the prince about this... This is also popular wisdom: “Don’t get ahead of yourself! First do it, and then talk!” That’s what Vasilisa the Wise does...").
The reader will notice that the princess is called “wise” when they tell how she works. Readers, when reading and retelling this episode, note both the real description of labor characteristic of the Russian people and their way of life, and the special rhythm that seems to accompany these labor processes:

Readers talk about how the wives of the older brothers carried out the king's order. Let us note that the fairy tale exaggerates the shortcomings of their work, taking the extreme degree of negative (one is burnt, the other is raw). For what purpose is this exaggeration introduced? Readers will be able to conclude that this exaggeration emphasizes the art of Vasilisa the Wise, which surprises the prince and deserves high praise from the king: “This loaf is only eaten on big holidays!”
The retelling of the third episode is even more interesting for comparative work.
Let us remember what the king wanted to know (“The king wanted to find out how his wives could do needlework. He ordered his sons’ wives to weave a carpet “by tomorrow”). What is different about the work of Vasilisa the Wise? She weaves herself. The wives of other sons call mothers, nannies and red girls. Mothers and nannies weave, some with silver, some with gold, some with silk. The fairy tale does not tell what Vasilisa the Wise weaves, but everything comes to life under the hands of a skilled craftswoman. Let us recall the episodes that tell how the prince’s admiration for the work of Vasilisa the Wise gradually increases. If in the first case the bread was such as he had “never seen”, and the prince was “amazed,” then in the second case the carpet turned out to be something “that you couldn’t imagine, couldn’t imagine, except say in a fairy tale,” and the prince gasped. Here, not only the skill of the princess is noted, but also the ability of Ivan Tsarevich to appreciate this skill.
As if the pinnacle of the wisdom of the frog princess is her behavior at the royal feast. With a wave of her hand, the remains of food turn into lakes and swans, and then suddenly disappear. The art of the frog princess becomes extraordinary and magical. The beauty of Vasilisa the Wise was revealed to everyone. The last time the words of Vasilisa the Wise are heard is at the very end of the fairy tale: “Well, Ivan Tsarevich, you managed to find me and find me, now I will be yours all my life.”
The fairy tale “The Frog Princess” tells how the heroes achieve the victory of goodness and justice, going through various trials. Only when they themselves become worthy of happiness does good triumph.

Fairy tales are an integral part of culture and creativity in all peoples of the world. One of the most beloved heroines of our country is the image of Vasilisa the Wise. This is a young sorceress who was bewitched by her own father, because she originated from him in witchcraft. The author does not say anything about her appearance so that the reader can characterize her by her actions. The girl is very intelligent and thoughtful. Even in the most difficult situations, she remains calm and solves any problem posed. The sorceress also skillfully works in the kitchen and does handicrafts. It seems to me that she represents the image of a skillful housewife, a good wife and an intelligent woman.
Vasilisa will always respond to help and knows how to be sensitive. She is devoted to her husband Ivan Tsarevich and is optimistic about many things. Vasilisa respects her elders and will never refuse a request. The girl tried to be the best for her husband and tried to please in everything. Not only did she cook Korowai, which tasted incredible, but she also made many interesting dishes. Vasilisa is very sweet, sympathetic and, for me, this is what an ideal wife should be like.
In the fairy tales about “Vasilisa the Wise,” the author shows a respectful attitude towards women and points out the hard work of Russian women. Teaches you to find the strength not to shed tears in vain and in all life situations to remain optimistic and never give up. The girl in the stories recognizes her husband’s authority, but at the same time does not submit to him in everything. She is able to guide Ivan Tsarevich to the right thoughts and actions, and deserves respect from others.
