What's on the bookshelves?
In order to write a story about a library or an essay, you need to understand what it is. This is a special institution where books and periodicals - newspapers and magazines - are stored. Books in the library are issued with a special library card, which is issued for each visitor. The ticket contains the first and last name and a list of publications that the reader took home and returned (or not yet).
Libraries are created in schools - in individual classes, colleges and universities. Of course, there are also separate buildings in which people most often choose to read fiction. In the school library they most often look for literature for writing abstracts and essays, in colleges and universities - for writing a diploma, term paper or report, which is why the literature in them is more highly specialized .
In reading rooms, a certain temperature and air humidity are most often maintained so that paper pages do not mold, fade or deteriorate. The interiors are very similar - huge shelves with books arranged according to the catalog - in alphabetical order - to make it easier to find and select the desired volume in the reading room.
Modern libraries have computer classes so that those who do not have a computer at home can access the Internet.
Option 2
Since early childhood I have loved to read. There are a huge number of books in my family. My grandmother, who works as a librarian, instilled in me a love of reading. It was she who introduced me to the wonderful world of books and it was with her that I first went to the library.
My grandmother works in a large central library, thanks to her I have had access to the rarest books since childhood. For me, the library is an amazingly atmospheric place, it’s very easy to concentrate on studying here, very responsive and friendly people work here who will happily help you find any book, or easily recommend reading something special. Here the staff can select literature for any report or project, it is very convenient.
I especially like the reading room. It's great that there are even computers here. I love cozy reading areas and beautiful table lamps.
There are always a lot of people in the library. Schoolchildren who take books home or read them here, students who prepare for exams or write term papers, as well as adults come here.
There are many interest clubs in the library. For example, there is a club for lovers of English and Greek languages, a handicraft club, a poetry club, even young scientists, as well as art lovers, gather here.
The library also has a summer veranda where anyone can read a book. I really enjoy reading there, I find it quite romantic. The library also has special shelves where you can put books that you no longer need, and you can also pick up any books you like.
Some people believe that libraries are boring places that reek of the past and have no place in the future. I completely disagree with this, I believe that libraries are the future, but probably the libraries of the future will be significantly different from those that we are used to seeing. People go to libraries and actively read books, I think this is great proof that libraries will never die.
Short story
The first “book depositories” became known in ancient Rome. One of the most famous, included in the list of eight wonders of the world, is Alexandria. All books imported into the country were then confiscated and placed there. In those days, libraries were mostly private organizations and were located outside the city. The first public one appeared in the first century BC.
Libraries appeared in Russia only in the seventeenth century . First, special institutions appeared - orders, under which book depositories were organized so that officials could perform their duties efficiently.
The first state scientific library was created by decree of Peter the Great simultaneously with the Kunstkamera. Subsequently, this book depository was transferred to the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Essays “Going to the Library”, 5th grade

Before the start of the New Year holidays, my class and I went to the library, where a festive competition was taking place. The room was decorated: snowflakes were glued to the windows and doors, the shelves sparkled from the garlands lying there, and there was a large Christmas tree at the entrance. A few days before, we were divided into 3 teams, and we had to show reading numbers. Someone read poetry, someone asked riddles, and my team decided to show a sketch based on the story “Yolka” by Mikhail Zoshchenko. I played Minka and was very afraid of forgetting the words. But in the end we took 1st place! We were given sweets and cards, and before leaving we each took some books to read during the holidays.

Victory Day is coming very soon, and in honor of this my classmates and I went to the library. There they told us about the war and the siege of Leningrad, and showed us a short documentary. All this is really scary and should not happen again, that’s why such events are held so that people don’t forget about it and be kind. We were also read poems by Yulia Drunina, Olga Berggolts and Boris Okudzhava. I decided to learn Yulia Drunina’s poem “Bandages” and recite it at a school concert when veterans come to us. I hope they enjoy the concert and we bring joy to our heroes. Before leaving, we were taken to a stand with books on the topic of war. I took home Boris Lavrenev’s book “The Forty-First.”
Behavior rules
In order to use library books, you must follow simple instructions:
- Not all books can be taken home. Some publications can only be studied in the building; special reading rooms are equipped for this purpose. Long rows of tables with lamps are set in large offices where readers can take notes from books of interest.
- If a reader takes a book home, it must be returned in good condition - not torn or dirty. If something like this happens to a book, then it needs to be repaired - the binding needs to be updated, the spine glued, the pages cleaned and sometimes even ironed.
- The book must be returned within the period specified by the rules. Most often, you are given six months to read fiction. If you fail to bring a book in time, the library may impose a fine for late return.
- If you take a book to work in the reading room, you must maintain silence and not distract people working nearby.
Extended essay on the topic “Guys in the library”
If a child has a well-developed imagination and thoughts flow like a river, then you can write an extensive, detailed essay. As an example, you can take the following option:
The library is an institution for children and adults who want to be smart and have deep knowledge. It’s worth coming here for those who like to spend time in a special atmosphere, immersing themselves in the world behind the cover of a book.
No bookcase will contain as much useful and necessary literature as a library. Whatever topic you come up with, whatever your homework is, you will always find the necessary literature here. I really like the library because there is no loud shouting. The guys I go there with whisper to each other and share their impressions of what they read. Mom says that my friends and I are great, because visiting such establishments is useful and inspires action.
The library is a world of magical and colorful events; it is a great place to rest your soul and relax.

What rules should a student follow when using the library? There are very rare books in one copy, they are not given out. In this case, such a book can be used in a specially designated place called a reading room. It is very important to maintain silence, since those present are busy with their own affairs, and noise is distracting and interferes with concentration, so we must respect each other. Books must be loved and protected, because they are intended for mass use. Therefore, you cannot outline them, bend or wrinkle the pages. You should not enter the library with food or drinks; greasy stains may remain on the books. You must remember that someone else will use this book after you. If you take a book home, you must not lose it or forget it in transport or anywhere else. Then you will have to buy the same one, but most often it is very difficult to find such a book, so you will have to return its cost. While in the reading room, you can go to the bookshelves and look for the literature you need. But it is necessary to remember in which place this or that book stood in order to return it there, since the next reader or librarian will look for the book where it stood.

My School Library
Libraries are very important in the life of all people. We can't buy all the books we want to read. That's why we take out books from libraries.
A lot of people go to libraries on Saturdays. They have some time to spare, because Saturday is a day off. They bring their books to the library and go home taking new books.
The librarians take books from t he people who come in and give them some new books to choose for reading at home.
In a book there is a little pocket and in this pocket there is a piece of paper. The librarian takes this piece of paper out of the pocket in the book. She fills it in, that is, puts the date on the piece of paper and on the right page of the book. Then she puts the piece of paper in the person's reading card.
Speaking about libraries it is necessary to admit that Moscow holds the first place among all the other cities of the world for the number of its libraries. The largest library in the world is the State Lenin Library with an overall fund of 21 million various titles in 166 languages. It has 22 reading-rooms, special halls for scientific reference work, for children and youth, for current periodicals, reference books, manuscripts and for other purposes.
The library has a book exchange service with 60 countries of the world.
I enjoy reading books. And it doesn’t matter what kind of book it is. It can be a collection of short stories, a book of poems or adventures. I enjoy them all equally. But there's one thing that matters. When I choose a book for reading, it shouldn’t be dull but interesting.
I used to get some of my books from my school library. I must admit our school library had a good stock of books and the librarian was always ready to help in one’s choice of books. A great number of volumes filled the shelves. One could find there books of adventure stories, historical novels and tales that opened up panoramas of life and history of other countries, psychological novels, collections of short stories, the immortal classics.
Our school library subscribed to several newspapers and magazines. They kept us well informed about the latest developments in this country and abroad, news in the spheres of science, art and literature.
Though I attend libraries on a regular basis, I buy quite a lot of books too, particularly those that I read before and enjoyed reading. I like to have them in my room so that I can turn to them not only once but time and again" I derive an utmost pleasure from sitting in the room where my books are and even if I am not reading them, I like to look at the books on the shelves and to feel that I have my friends around me, friends that will never let you down, that will never betray you.

Why are libraries needed now?
If now all the knowledge in the world can be obtained by pressing just one button, why go to dusty, often dark rooms, follow rules that are strange for our time and endure inconvenience? This question is very easy to answer. The Internet can never replace a book. Text printed on the page is always perceived better than on the screen, if only because it does not strain the eyes as much as a monitor or screen.
True book lovers say that you can turn on your imagination only by flipping through paper pages. In addition, the rustling of pages always creates a unique atmosphere of comfort. And if we talk about the atmosphere - how great it is to come into the hall, walk past the shelves and racks - after all, visiting the library can become a real event, especially now, when in the struggle for people’s attention the managers have begun:
- organize excursions;
- conduct conversations with librarians;
- arrange meetings with poets and writers;
- conduct presentations of new products.
Children's libraries have opened clubs for children - children are taught to understand what they read, to sculpt their favorite characters from plasticine based on descriptions, or sometimes even to illustrate their favorite fairy tales.
The discussion about the benefits of libraries in the modern world can be endless. Why, even with the development of technology, is it necessary to give up activities that you enjoy? Even to write an essay or a short essay, you need to process a certain amount of text and read a certain number of articles . Entire galaxies are hidden in every book, every novel. They contain global messages to all humanity. The book world is completely special. He educates, teaches to love life, understand it and organize his inner world.
Essay about the Library
The library plays a huge role in our lives. Years and centuries pass, but libraries always remain something important for people and society. And how could it be otherwise, because thanks to the library and the books collected there, we become more literate and learn a lot of new things.
From early childhood, the library was something special for me. I went there as if into some amazing world where you can learn a lot of new things. There are so many books collected here that it is difficult to make a choice. These books taught me to be kinder; I learned a lot of interesting things from books about the past of our Motherland. You approach a shelf with books, and your eyes widen at how much you want to read.
The library shelves contain books, both fiction and in all branches of knowledge. Every book is a mystery until you read it. They stand and wait for their readers.
Now there is an opinion that libraries have become unnecessary, that any book can be found and read on the Internet. This is a misconception. Yes, there are a lot of books on the Internet, but only a specialist working in the library can select the book we need. He will advise and help you make the right choice, and find the information you need.
Reading an e-book and a printed one are two very different things. You pick up a book, flip through its pages and enjoy reading. You will never feel this when flipping through a book on the Internet.
A modern library is a cultural, information and educational center. You can come here not only to read a book, but also to read newspapers, work on the computer, and chat with friends. The library is always clean, cozy and quiet. This library silence of the reading rooms has a special effect on me. I want to sit in this silence for a long time and read a book or newspaper.
And what interesting events are held within the walls of libraries: literary evenings, hours of interesting messages, meetings with writers and much more. Interest clubs attract readers of all ages. I also really like modern forms of working in the library, especially Skype conferences and meeting interesting people online.
It makes me especially sad that some people who were helped by the library in getting an education now say that libraries are not needed. They have always been, are and will be needed.
