The work “Ionych” reveals a rather interesting topic in which complete degradation of a person occurs due to environmental factors. However, unlike other writers who touched on this topic, Anton Pavlovich Chekhov saw this problem not only in the world and society that surrounded the person, but also in the characters themselves, who became worse during the narrative of this work. He believed that one should remain a humane person in any situation and that one should learn something new every day.

In each part of the work, the main character becomes worse and worse. At the very beginning of the work, he is inspired and full of strength, strives to become better and be known as a professional in his field who selflessly helps people. Having met the Turkins family, he, not paying attention to their ostentatious education, falls in love with Kotya, in whom he sees the meaning of his life. However, the girl does not reciprocate his feelings, which is why the character turns into a completely different person. Kotya laughs at the character when he reveals his feelings to her, as a result of which Dmitry becomes a cynical and indifferent person.

After which the hero will continue to be presented to the reader as such, having lost all interest in showing kindness and humanity. Society did not need these qualities that Dmitry initially possessed. He becomes mercantile, thinking only about how to earn more money in order to surround himself with the benefits and delights of life. No longer dreaming of becoming a professional in his field, he only thinks about all kinds of ways to earn money. He has already forgotten about Kotya and her refusal, and is concentrated on his activities. The hero did not want to communicate with others, because he did not think that he could talk to them about anything. However, he himself becomes the same mercantile person as most representatives of this society.

He makes real estate purchases, saves money, plays cards and other things that bring him profit. Perhaps Ionych did not meet a person who would help him get on the right path, however, according to the writer, in spite of everything, he himself should not lose heart, but continue to strive to improve himself. By creating such a collective image, Chekhov showed that there is no need to give up under the influence of social factors, it is necessary to strive for the best and try to live life as usefully as possible.

Option 2

Anton Pavlovich raises a lot of topics that are relevant at all times. One of which is dream and reality. The story entitled “Ionych” reveals this topic in detail. It shows what thoughts, desires and possibilities were and how everything turned out later. Based on the text of the work, one can understand what mistakes the young heroes made. It can be noted that everything could have turned out completely differently if the heroes themselves had not turned in the other direction. It is very dangerous when the material rises above the spiritual.

The main character is Dmitry Ionych. This is a young man who graduated from medical school and was sent to work in a provincial town. The hero was happy that he had found his calling and now, like others, will not waste time searching for himself and his place in society. His dream was to work as a doctor, during which he would put patients on their feet and support them in difficult times. He wanted to make his contribution to medicine. He did not have a goal to become famous or earn a lot of money, he sincerely wanted to help the sick.

The main character's dream was very valuable. For the reason that she did not pursue selfish interests, but could bring real benefit to the people around her.

The young man had the necessary knowledge and did not even think about being idle. The hero came to this outback with a high spiritual level and had every opportunity to achieve what he wanted. Patients are very happy to have such a doctor. However, the surrounding reality has a bad effect on the hero, after which he himself gives up his dream.

The doctor did not give up his dream overnight, it was a process. It all started with the fact that the hero did not have enough money even for the necessary things, for example, he always had to get to his patients on foot. Although others had horses. The hero wants to change the situation and starts chasing money. Because of this, Ionych begins to slowly betray his calling; patients are now just a means to earn money.

Ionych’s spiritual decline was facilitated by the environment where his neighbors were constantly either drinking or having meaningless conversations. Everyone has long stopped setting goals for themselves; life has become boring and monotonous. No one is going to change anything in their life, no one wants to fight, make efforts. It’s a shame that this abyss also swallowed the main character.

It is noteworthy that Ionych’s dream was quite achievable. If we consider the heroine named Katerina. She dreamed of becoming a pianist without any talent. She was pursuing her dream, but if you objectively assess the situation, you can understand that it is pointless. The girl realized this only when things didn’t work out for her in Moscow. She had a desire to be famous, to achieve fame. The motives were wrong from the start. Chasing this dream, Katerina rejects Dmitry. When she is no longer averse to marrying him, he no longer needs anything.

Dmitry and Katerina were in different positions. However, both did not achieve what they wanted. Ionych, because he himself refused, and Katerina chose the wrong path.

Essay 3

Anton Pavlovich Chekhov is a wonderful satirist writer who was able to describe several characters in each of his short works. Of course, he not only laughed at people, but also described human lives. For example, in the work “Ionych”, he was able to show the decomposition of the human personality under the influence of society and the environment.

Throughout the entire story there is a line of decomposition of the soul. At the beginning, the image of a wonderful young man Dmitry appears before the reader. He is an excellent doctor, an honest and erudite person, and simply a person who strives for something new, bright and happy, which is typical for all people in their youth. Dmitry meets a family that is supposedly as educated and well-mannered as he is, but in reality all its members turn out to be just amateurs. Dmitry is touched by this and falls in love with a girl who plays the piano. When he confesses to her, Catherine refuses, arguing that she does not want to commit herself to marriage, she wants development. Despite his love, he quickly comes to terms with it, even though it dealt him a huge blow. Kitty never loved him, she laughed at the young doctor and even made a date in a symbolic place - in a cemetery, this is a sign that their relationship will never continue. The girl finally came to her senses, but it was too late, many years had passed. Dmitry remembered her refusal forever.

Since then, no one will ever see the doctor cheerful and happy. From Dmitry, he simply turned into Ionych, who spent money every day and loved to buy new houses. He became what he previously hated and despised. He became vulgar, coarse and fat. It is difficult to say whether his life could have changed. Perhaps yes, if he met a person who loved him, but maybe he lacked the inner strength.

In the last chapter, the reader is shown, as it were, the end of Ionych’s development. He became a rude, uninterested and angry person. Nothing matters to him anymore, he is used to living in something that does not suit him. The Turkin family has not changed at all. The husband still tells jokes, the wife reads her novels, and Kitty, now old, plays the piano for the same long time, but usually, like any other girl. A kind of ring in the composition shows us this static nature, this vicious circle that will never be destroyed because no one wants it.

Most likely Ionych is a collective image. Chekhov calls on us all to think about ourselves and our lives, not to become a “little person” and not to bend under a society that is so oppressive, but to educate ourselves and begin to live happily and usefully.

Essay 2

Before your eyes is the story of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov “Ionych”, which consists of 5 parts. Each of them shows the moral changes of the main character, making us think about the essence of man as a whole.

From the first pages, the Turkin family appears before the reader’s eyes, whom Doctor Startsev visits more than once. At first glance, this person is kind and sympathetic, he loves his work. He is completely dedicated to his work, which makes him happy and makes the people around him happy.

Throughout the story, the character experiences a feeling of love for one of the members of the Turkin family, the hero is inspired, it would seem that he has comprehended the secrets of existence, and has found true joy. But the happiness was short-lived.

There is such a thing as the influence of human society, when a person is afraid of being different from everyone else, of standing out from the crowd. Startsev, as it turned out towards the end of the work, turned out to be such. He was a respected doctor in the city and was considered a positive person. However, in pursuit of human opinion and the habits of petty-bourgeois society, Startsev loses his true self and falls into the abyss of neglect, gloating and immorality.

In front of the townspeople, the main character ceases to be an authoritative figure. Success turned out to be fleeting. There is obvious degradation, which ends morally disastrous for the former doctor. Why ex? Because, trying to pretend to be someone who he really wasn’t trying to be, he abandoned everything pure and attractive: love, wonderful work. The hero did not retain his favorite profession and lost the sincerity of his feelings.

Gradually, Startsev began to change, thereby turning into a different person. A resident of an ordinary city, who is only interested in the material component: money, real estate, and so on, which only destroyed his soul every day, leaving no room for sincerity and kindness.

The changes towards the end of the story are significant. The character has become an incredibly rude person; he has no morality left in his actions. The spiritual formation of the hero did not occur. He ceased to be interested in social activities and small talk. He burned out morally. In the end, only degradation, which, due to the established order in society, forced Startseva to get lost in her own spiritual quest.

Thanks to this story, Chekhov showed how dramatically and irrevocably a person can change if he follows social views and orders.

Mini essay

Chekhov's story “Ionych” can be called a parable or instructions on how to kill a person. The work reflects a provincial town in which people exist meaninglessly, mechanically performing the same actions. The author does not describe many residents, but shows only the “best” - the Turkin family. These people are firmly convinced that everything they do is a work of art. The father of the family tells jokes, his wife writes endless novels that have no intertwining with reality, and their daughter, whom they call “Kitty,” knocks on the piano keys, calling it music. The Turkins are not only the most talented, but also the most hospitable family, so the doctor Dmitry Ionych, who has just arrived in the city, spends a lot of time at their home. The intelligent doctor is visited by a bright feeling - he falls in love with the Turkins’ daughter, but in such an environment, even love turns into something unpleasant. The girl rejects the hero, but this does not bring him much suffering. After all, this family gradually sharpens the soul of the main character, and he becomes like them, as well as other people in the city. But everything could have been different if the doctor had ended up in another city and met the same personalities as himself. This is how easily a place can destroy a person if he does not have an inner core and the desire to change something in this life.

  • Man and environment in the story “Ionych” The plot of the story “Ionych” is simple. This is the story of the failed marriage of Dmitry Ionych Startsev. The plot is built around two declarations of love (the same as in “Eugene Onegin” by A.S. Pushkin). First, Doctor Startsev confesses his love to Kotik, proposes to her and receives a decisive refusal, and then, four years later, she tells Ionych about her love. But now he listens to her confession indifferently. But in fact, the story is the story of the hero’s entire life, lived meaninglessly. What was the reason [...]

The townsfolk are all “gamblers, alcoholics, wheezing,” they irritate him “with their conversations, their views on life and even their appearance.” It is impossible to talk to them about politics or science. • The spiritual rebirth of man in Chekhov's stories Chekhov is a master of the short story, and the subject of study in them most often for the writer is the inner world of a person. He was an irreconcilable enemy of vulgarity and philistinism, hated and despised the townsfolk, their empty and aimless life, devoid of high aspirations and ideals. The main question that A.P. Chekhov asked throughout his entire creative career is the reasons for a person’s loss of spirituality, his moral decline. Most often, these reasons are a person’s exposure to the influence [...]
  • What is Chekhov’s attitude to the formula: “the environment is stuck”? (using the example of the story “Ionych”) A.P. Chekhov, understanding the tragedy of petty reality, repeatedly warned with his creativity: “There is nothing more sad, more offensive than the vulgarity of human existence.” It was unbearable for him to see the spiritual death of a person who had renounced ideals and his life purpose. He looked for the reasons for this and tried to show them to everyone in order to protect the world from lack of spirituality. There is a story in Chekhov’s work in which the writer most clearly demonstrated the gradual process of spiritual degradation […]
  • What is the “undercurrent” in the play “The Cherry Orchard” In life, people often say something that is not what they mean. In literary theory, this implicit, hidden meaning, which does not coincide with the direct meaning of the phrase, is called “subtext”. In prose works, it is quite easy to convey this semantic effect with the help of an omniscient author-storyteller. For example, in the novel by N.G. Chernyshevsky “What to do?” (chapter 2, VI) lively mother Marya Alekseevna Rozalskaya addresses her daughter Vera: “My friend, Verochka, why are you sitting there like a beech? You are now with Dmitry Sergeevich (home […]
  • The theme of love in Chekhov's story “About Love” A.P. Chekhov’s skill as an author of psychological prose was fully manifested in his stories “About Love”, “The Lady with the Dog” and others. These are tragic stories about the impossibility of making the right choice in building relationships. Tradition tells us to start a family in youth, when a person has not yet understood himself, hence the millions of unhappy marriages. In the subtle story “About Love”, full of lyricism, the author talks about broken happiness, about how “quiet, sad love” died and the lives of two good and kind […]
  • The theme of vulgarity in Chekhov's stories (“The Man in a Case”) In the story “The Man in a Case,” Chekhov protests against spiritual savagery, philistinism and philistinism. He raises the question of the relationship between education and the general level of culture in one person, opposes narrow-mindedness and stupidity, and the stultifying fear of superiors. Chekhov's story "The Man in a Case" became the pinnacle of the writer's satire in the 90s. In a country where the police, denunciations, judicial reprisals dominated, living thoughts and good deeds were persecuted, the mere sight of Belikov was enough for people […]

This period of Russian history, which lasted until the mid-90s, was called “twilight and gloomy.” In his literary works, Chekhov, as a doctor by profession, valued authenticity [...]
  • The image of case people in Chekhov's stories In his stories, A.P. Chekhov constantly refers to the theme of the “little man.” Chekhov's characters are spiritual slaves of a society devoid of higher values and the meaning of life. A painful, everyday, gray reality surrounds these people. They are isolated in a little world that they have created for themselves. This theme unites the so-called little trilogy, written by Chekhov in the late 1890s. and consisting of three stories: “Man in a Case”, “Gooseberry”, “About Love”. • An essay on the topic “What evolution does the image of the little man undergo in Chekhov’s stories?” The theme of the little man was touched upon in his works by N.V. Gogol, F.M. Dostoevsky, A.S. Pushkin. These heroes evoked pity and compassion. After all, they became like this because of difficult life circumstances and the disdainful attitude of others. At A.P. Chekhov's image of a little man is significantly different. Heroes such as Vanka from the work of the same name or the coachman Jonah from the story “Tosca” evoke sincere sympathy. They have no one to share their troubles with. These are very lonely, small people. Writer […]

In a short story, lengthy descriptions and long internal monologues are impossible, so artistic detail comes to the fore. It carries a huge artistic load in Chekhov’s works. The spiritual and moral choice of the hero, man’s responsibility for his destiny, the exposure of the vulgarity of Russian life form the basis of Anton Pavlovich’s work […]

Chekhov's story "About Love" stands on a par with his other two stories "The Man in a Case" and "Gooseberry", which are called the "little trilogy". In these works, the writer passes judgment on people with truncated life horizons, indifferent to the wealth and beauty of God's world, who have limited themselves to petty, philistine interests. In the story “About Love” we read about how a living, sincere, mysterious feeling is destroyed by the loving hearts themselves, committed to a “case” existence. […]

There are two main characters: Anna and her husband Modest Alekseevich. The girl is 18 years old, she lived in poverty with her drinking father and younger brothers. In describing Anna, Chekhov uses epithets: “young, graceful.” Modest Alekseevich evokes less sympathy: a well-fed, “uninteresting gentleman.” The author uses simple and succinct expressions to describe the feelings of the young wife: she is “scared and disgusted.” The writer compares Anna's marriage to a locomotive that fell on the poor girl.
