- Trilogy about Krosh
The cycle of stories “Trilogy about Krosha” was created by Anatoly Naumovich Rybakov in the period from 1960 to 1971. The series includes three works, the main character of which is a young man named Sergei Krasheninnikov, whom his friends often call Krosh. Throughout all three stories, Sergei and his comrades gradually leave behind their childhood, gain life experience, and learn to distinguish lies from truth and good from evil.
The first story in this series, written in 1960, was called “The Adventures of Krosh.” High school students undergo the necessary practice at the motor depot, which patronizes the Krosh school. Sergei and his friends are offered to restore a decommissioned truck themselves in order to learn the basics of car repair.
Krasheninnikov notices the disappearance of new components, which someone is replacing with old and already deteriorating parts. Nobody wants to listen to Krosh’s words, and the guy begins to look for the unscrupulous repairman on his own. He manages to find out that one of the mechanics is stealing the parts, and Sergei persuades this man to return the parts in order to avoid punishment. The director of the car depot, in the presence of other people, praises Krosh for his honesty and conscientiousness, urging the young man to continue to maintain the appropriate qualities.
The second part of the trilogy is called “Krosh’s Vacation”; the author completed work on this story in 1966. During the summer holidays, Sergei meets guys who are interested in collecting Japanese collectible figurines, known as netsuke. The small group is led by the scientist Vladimir Nikolaevich Lesnikov, whom the young men call among themselves Veen for short.
Krosh enjoys communicating with this company and studying information about netsuke. But later it becomes clear to him that Veen is in fact a dishonest and selfish man, using young assistants to deceive older people, from whom he buys expensive antiques for next to nothing. In addition, Sergei learns that in the past Veen was responsible for the early death of Professor Mavrodaki, the father of his new comrade Kostya, by slandering the man in front of representatives of the scientific community. As a result, Krosh decides to sever all relations with collectors.
In 1971, the third and final part of the trilogy, called “The Unknown Soldier,” was created. Sergei Krasheninnikov graduates from school, but the young man fails to enter the university. Krosh decides to stay for a while in the small town where his grandfather lives; the guy gets a job in an organization that repairs and builds roads.
One day, Sergei and his colleagues discover a grave left over from the Great Patriotic War. The guy strives to find out the whole truth about who exactly is buried in this place, he intensively conducts searches, writes a request to the archive, communicates with a variety of people. At the same time, Krosh’s leader is extremely dissatisfied with his activities, believing that Sergei, trying to establish the name of the unknown soldier, forgets about his direct responsibilities. But thanks to his persistence, Krasheninnikov still finds out that in the grave there is a man named Krayushkin, and the granddaughter of the deceased soldier comes to honor the memory of her grandfather.
In each of the stories that make up the trilogy, the main character Krosh shows integrity, decency, uncompromisingness, and indifference to what is happening around him, although those around him sometimes consider the guy to be overly naive and not adapted to real life. But Sergei develops and matures without losing his best human qualities; he always defends his own position, without fear of misunderstanding from other people.

Trilogy characters
The main character of this series of books is Sergei Krashennikov.
Thanks to the abbreviation of his last name, he received the nickname Krosh, which is what his friends and relatives call him. He is an inquisitive boy who is always interested in exploring or investigating something. Other characters in the story are Krosh’s friends - schoolchildren who are also undergoing practical training. The episodes include class teacher Natalya Pavlovna, school caretaker Ivan Semenovich, foreman Dmitry Alexandrovich, and automobile plant engineer Vasily Petrovich.
A retelling of the Troche Trilogy in parts
This series of books is often published under the title "The Adventures of Krosh", but in fact this is only the title of the first story. There are three parts in total in the trilogy, which need to be read one after another, since they follow a chronological order, although some of the storylines are not related to each other.
"The Adventures of Krosh"
The action takes place in the 60s, when Soviet children studied at school until the 10th grade. Graduates were required to undergo internships at various state enterprises. Thus, they helped their country, and received the necessary skills, and could decide on their future place of work.
The main character is a senior student Sergei, whom everyone calls Krosh. His class is supposed to do an internship at a car factory, so the boy will work at the base along with everyone else. The prospect of working during the holidays does not upset him, since he thinks that in practice there will be a lot of interesting things. In order to begin to better understand the structure of the car, Krosh, together with his comrades, decide to independently repair an old truck that has not been running for a long time.
One day, new car parts disappear from the warehouse. When everyone understands that there can be no more mistakes, an unequivocal conclusion arises: someone stole the parts. Krosh and his friends decide to investigate this incident and find the thief.
The guys suspect that the spare parts were stolen by one of the employees of the automobile plant - a mechanic. But they have not yet been able to find direct evidence to charge him.
In the continuation of the summary of Rybakov’s “Trilogy about Krosha”, it turns out that the mechanic really stole the parts. But the cunning man decided that he could set up the schoolchildren. While the guys were doing repairs in the workshop, he planted what he had stolen. Krosh and his friends discover the spare parts, but decide not to touch them and not tell anyone about them in order to catch the criminal red-handed.
However, all they find the next morning are traces of a car driving away from the warehouse. A little later, Krosh is relaxing by the lake and sees that the same car is parked nearby as the one that was driving away from the warehouse at the base. The main character finds out that it was the locksmith whom he suspected of theft who was repairing it.
Krosh talks to the thief. He understands that if the crime becomes known to everyone, he will lose his job and respect in society. Therefore, Krosh simply invites the locksmith to return the stolen goods, and he agrees. He no longer tries to set up interns.
At the end of the practice, the plant director expresses gratitude to Krosh and his classmates. They worked hard and showed the best human qualities in their work.
“Krosha’s Holidays”
The internship at the car factory is over, and now Krosh can enjoy his summer vacation. He is looking for something to do during the holidays and meets his peers who have a very unusual hobby - they collect Japanese netsuke figurines (these are carved keychains that appeared in the 16th-17th centuries). The circle is led by Vladimir Nikolaevich Lesnikov, but the children simply call it by its abbreviated initials - VeEn.
Krosh joins the circle with interest. He learns a lot of new things about this carved art and about Japan in general. From time to time, VeEn gives the children various tasks related to the activities of their circle, but they do not always understand their meaning.
One day Lesnikov tells his charges a story about the missing figurines. Someone has stolen several valuable netsuke, and Krosh decides to investigate this incident.
Continuing to read the summary of the “Trilogy about Krosh”, we see that the investigation of the main character leads him to completely unexpected results: it turns out that the leader of VeEn is a real criminal. With the help of a children's circle, he covers up his illegal activities, deceives older people in order to buy valuable works of art from them for next to nothing. When Krosh realizes this, he declares that he no longer wants to participate in such a circle, and is not going to deceive anyone for Lesnikova’s profit.
Before leaving the circle forever, Krosh exposes Lesnikov. He not only exposes the deceiver, but also helps one collector restore his good name. Lesnikov once slandered him, but now justice has triumphed. Krosh loses all interest in collecting Japanese figurines, but he is glad that he was able to uncover the deception and prevent Lesnikov’s further crimes.
"Unknown Soldier"
Krosh graduated from school. Now he is quite an adult and can start working. The young man decides to go to a small town to live with his grandfather, where he joins a construction team.
Krosh is working on the construction of a new highway. One day, he and the rest of the brigade discover a burial place from the Great Patriotic War, but there is no information about who is in the grave. The main character decides to explore the story of the unknown soldier as a sign of respect for the fact that he fought to protect his homeland.
Krosh learns that in the place where the highway is now being built, there were battles in 1942. The soldiers accomplished a real feat there, but nothing is known about their names. The main character delves into the study of the history of the city and communicates with many people to find out who lies in an unmarked grave.
Some people willingly help Krosh, while others remain completely indifferent. The main character does not respect the last category of people. He believes that everyone is obliged to remember the war and respect those who performed feats and died for the sake of a peaceful sky above their heads.
As a result, Krosh manages to find personal belongings that once belonged to the soldier. He discovers a lighter made from a cartridge, as well as a pouch. The main character makes a request to the archive to find out who exactly fought in the area where his construction team is now working.
The search for Krosh ends in success. He learns that a soldier named Krayushkin was buried in an unknown grave, who did not spare himself in order to defend his homeland. Sergei pays tribute to the fallen hero.
"The Adventures of Krosh"
The story is about how 9th grade schoolchildren had a summer internship at a motor depot that patronizes their school. Krosh did not have technical inclinations; he wanted to get a job in a car during practice so that he could drive it. But together with Shmakov, Peter ended up in the garage. At first they were not trusted with anything, they only observed. In the garage, the workers considered Krosh small, but after he showed them his license, albeit a child’s, it impressed everyone. Gradually the guys got involved in the work.
Igor worked in an office, walked around the workshops and filled out forms. He behaved as if he were the deputy chief engineer. He loved to hang around among the elders, to be the center of attention.
At a class meeting after a week of practice, Igor proposes to restore the decommissioned GAZ-51. All the guys support him. Krosh suggests, before taking on such a difficult task, to look at the condition of the car. Nobody listens to him. As always, Igor offers something, and if it doesn’t work out, everyone is to blame except him.
Krosh suggests drawing up a defective statement. At this time, in Lagutin’s desk he finds bearings that he was supposed to put on the car. The car came out of the garage with old parts. The boy cannot believe that Lagutin can do this to the state - sell the bearings and take the money for himself. Krosh realized for himself that Lagutin is a swindler.
Krosh, Shmakov, Vadim and Igor live in the same yard. Igor did not introduce the others to his adult friends. I was shy. Vadim, as a friend, was hurt by this.
The next day, Vadim announced to all his classmates to collect everything that could be useful for their car. Just at this time, new shock absorbers disappear. Krosh guessed who took them - Lagutin. Immediately, losses were discovered in other warehouses. All the missing items, except for the shock absorbers, ended up in a warehouse reserved for schoolchildren's cars. Igor began to blame Vadim for this, although he himself was to blame - it was he who told Vadim that the director allowed things to be collected in workshops. From this moment on, Vadim leaves Igor’s influence. The guys asked for forgiveness. Students were told to look for shock absorbers.
The guys were advised to restore the decommissioned car, which is located in Lipki, as it is in the best condition. Krosh, Shmakov, Igor and Vadim followed him. There was an accident on the spot: the guys overturned the car. Krosh, Shmakov and Vadim stayed overnight in the car, as they were ashamed to return to the city without anything. And Igor returned home, supposedly to warn his relatives. When the children and the car ended up in Moscow, the parents made a fuss. The director reprimanded Zuev. Krosh wants to write a statement because the guys are to blame. Igor dissuades him, and Zuev doesn’t care.
Igor tells Krosh that there are rumors that Zuev took the shock absorbers. The boy decides to talk to Lagutin. The mechanic distorts the schoolboy’s words, and the entire car depot already knows that Krosh thinks that Zuev took the shock absorbers. They look at Krosh reproachfully. The boy suffers, because he wanted what was best.
Vadim finds shock absorbers and shows Krosh. They decide not to take them and thereby find the thief. In the evening at the dance, Mike dances with Lagutin. Krosh decides never to talk to her.
The next morning the shock absorbers were not in place. The boys studied the tracks: some from the Volga, others from the all-terrain vehicle. Krosh tells Shmakov about everything.
The students were given an advance. Krosh spent almost the entire day thoughtlessly. Shmakov still had them intact.
Krosh nevertheless writes a statement that Zuev was not guilty in Lipki. The director gets angry and asks not to interfere in his business.
The restoration of the car progressed slowly. Only Krosh and Shmakov did almost everything. But then all children were prohibited from doing repairs during working hours. At the meeting they decided that they would do this after their shift, and the foremen would help them. Things went faster.
On Sunday, Krosh and Shmakov decided to go swimming in Khimki. Vadim imposed himself on them. In the yard I meet Igor, who is tinkering with his brother’s Muscovite and cannot fix it. Krosh and Shmakov help him. Igor, under fear of another car breakdown, takes the boys to Serebryany Bor, where it is much better. There he meets his friends and moves away from his classmates. In the end, everyone gets acquainted and swims together. Krosh pays attention to the traces of the car in which Igor’s friends arrived. They are the same ones at the crime scene.
Krosh talks to Maika again and tells her the story with the shock absorbers. The guys decide to talk to Igor honestly. Igor invites his friends to the Volga and it turns out that they did not take shock absorbers. But this could have been done by the person to whom they gave their car for repair. And it was Lagutin and a friend. After some time, the whole class knew the story with shock absorbers. Lagutin looked sideways at Krosh. Krosh and Shmakov talk with Lagutin. In the evening, dispatcher Zina comes to Krosh. The boy convinces her that if shock absorbers are found, then nothing will happen to Lagutin.
On the last day of practice, the car is finally ready, the ill-fated shock absorbers have been found, and the director of the car depot first scolds and then praises Krosh for his honesty.
Main thought
In the chapter-by-chapter summary of the “Krosha Trilogy,” the reader can see how the main character grows up. In the first story, he is still a schoolboy who is just starting to do his first serious work, and at the end of the part “The Unknown Soldier” Sergei is already a full-fledged member of the construction team, who has not lost his curiosity. As the boy grows up, his investigations also become more serious: from searching for missing parts to real historical research.
Krosh is a very curious young man. But his desire to know everything in detail cannot be called a vice, since he never does anything that could harm other people. On the contrary, all the investigations of the protagonist are aimed only at restoring justice and helping the victims.
At the same time, Krosh is a very understanding person. He is ready to treat even those who have stumbled with loyalty if they admit their mistakes. The main character does not tell anyone about the mechanic who stole spare parts from the factory, since he agrees to return everything to its place and not engage in theft anymore. But with Lesnikov, Krosh acts completely differently - he tells everyone about his deception, not caring about VeEn’s reputation in front of the children in his circle. The main character believes that a mistake made once can be corrected, but if a person deliberately behaves unworthily and does not admit guilt, then he must be punished.
In this trilogy, the author talks about the importance of being honest and responsive. Curiosity is always rewarded, and if a person wants to help someone and does everything for this, his efforts will definitely be appreciated.
During the course of the story, Krosh helps the director of an automobile plant, allows a cunning mechanic (who made a mistake and stole spare parts) to preserve his reputation, restores the good name of the collector Mavrodaki and pays tribute to an unknown soldier who died during the Great Patriotic War. These are worthy causes, and Krosh really benefits others, and learns a lot of new things for himself. The reader can learn from him how not to be lazy and waste his time. After all, life is given to us in order to constantly learn, enjoy our work and help others.
