Almazov was able to enroll only on the third attempt, and only thanks to the persuasion and support of his wife. Vera knows how difficult it was for him to pass all the exams.

Returning from the last exam, Nikolai looked very upset. The wife asked what happened. Almazov replied that it was all over and he would have to return to duty. Vera is not used to giving up so easily. She found out from her husband that he accidentally put a stain on the drawing. He had to draw bushes in place of the spot, but nothing grew in that area. The professor knew this very well and did not accept the work.

To pass the exam, Vera comes up with a good way out of the situation. She collects the jewelry they have in the house and sells it to a pawnshop. She wants to use the money to buy bushes and plant them in the right place. Late in the evening, Vera persuades the gardener to sell them a lilac bush and give them workers to plant it. She remains close to her husband and the workers until she is sure that the soil and turf under the bush are no different from the rest of the soil. It is very important that the lilac bush looks as if it has been growing in this place for a very long time.

The next day, Vera understands from her husband’s facial expression and cheerful gait that everything went well. The professor believed Nikolai. He was only surprised how he himself could forget that a bush grew in this place. Almazov was ashamed of his deception, but passing the exam played a huge role in his future life. Nikolai greatly admires Professor, especially his extensive knowledge.

Vera and Nikolai walked down the street very happy, holding hands and laughing. Passers-by turned to look at them, not understanding the joy of the young people.

At dinner at home they remembered the lilac bush and laughed again. Lilac became the favorite flower of this young family.

The love and support of loved ones helps to overcome all obstacles.

Detailed retelling Lilac bush

The main characters of the story are Vera and Nikolai Almazov - a married couple from St. Petersburg. Nikolai studies at the Military Academy, and Verochka constantly supports his spirit. Before enrolling, Nikolai failed several times, and if it weren’t for his wife, he would have given up on everything. This happened this time too - Almazov returned home after the last exam in no mood. Previous exams had not caused problems, but the couple was well aware of the hard work that was hidden behind it. Nikolai turned away and was silent; Vera started the conversation first. She found out that Nikolai, while drawing a project for the exam, left a blot out of fatigue and corrected it to look as if trees were growing in this area.

However, the teacher was a pedant (Nikolai referred to the teacher’s German origin), he knew this area very well and stated that there were no bushes there, to which Almazov entered into an argument. They decided to go to that very place the next day to finally make sure of everything. Nikolai was very upset, because if he did not pass this exam, he would go to the floor in disgrace.

Vera never gave up and supported her husband in everything, so she decided to immediately go to the gardener to plant bushes. In order to pay for his work, Vera collected her jewelry, after which the couple went to the pawnshop. The appraiser was accustomed to human grief, so he met the young couple with indifference. For the valuables they brought, the Almazovs received about 23 rubles, this money was quite enough, and Vera and Nikolai went to the gardener.

When the couple was there, the white St. Petersburg night had already set in. The old man was surprised and clearly not happy that he was being approached at such a late hour, because he was spending time with his family, and besides, it was unthinkable to send workers so far away in the middle of the night. Verochka, as always, was not at a loss and honestly told the gardener about the misadventures that happened to Nikolai and about her idea, which aroused trust and sympathy. It was decided to plant lilac bushes - they were the only ones suitable. The workers, the gardener and the Almazovs immediately went outside the city to the right place. Nikolai tried to persuade his wife to go home, but she stayed with him until the end and busily followed the work. When she was sure that everything looked as if the bushes had always been there, the couple finally went home.

The next day, Vera could not wait for her beloved and sit quietly for at least a minute. But when she went to meet her husband, she saw his happy face and bouncing gait and immediately understood everything. Nikolai, of course, was covered in dust, wanted to sleep and was dying of hunger, but the victory made him forget about everything. When the Teacher got there, he looked at the bushes for a long time, even picked a leaf and tasted it. He asked Nikolai what kind of trees these were, Almazov replied that he did not know, and suggested that they were birch trees. The teacher apologized to Nikolai, citing the fact that he must be old and his memory is failing. The young man regretted that he had to deceive his teacher, because he still had amazing knowledge and amazing accuracy in assessing the area.

Everything ended well, the couple went home and laughed so much that passers-by looked at them as if they were crazy. Nikolai dined with a huge appetite, he had probably never had such an appetite before, and when Verochka came into his office to bring tea, they both laughed. They asked each other what was the reason for the laughter, it turned out that they both laughed at the same time because of the incident with the bushes, and Vera wanted to say that lilac would now be her favorite flower.

Nikolai Evgrafovich Almazov, one of the main characters of the story, comes home to his wife, and barely waiting for her to open the door, he quickly goes to his office. The wife immediately knew from her husband’s face when something was wrong with him, and this time seeing his stern and frowning face, she realized that something was wrong.

She followed Nikolai into his office. Almazov, in turn, was an ordinary poor young officer. He was currently studying at the Academy of the General Staff, and on this ill-fated day he had just returned from the exam. Today Almazov handed over his last completed work to the professor, and this work was very important and contained surveying of the area. Before this, there were other exams that were very difficult for Nikolai, and only his wife knew how much he suffered and tried to pass everything.

Yes, if we take only the admission itself, then only in the third year of attempts did Almazov manage to enroll. All this time, his wife was next to him and supported him, perhaps if not for her support, Nikolai would have given up long ago and given up. Vera constantly tried in every possible way to help her husband and cheer him up. She even taught herself not to be upset by failures and to always smile. Verochka was ready to give up everything she wanted in order to create comfortable conditions for her beloved husband, because she understood perfectly well that he was busy with his work. She even helped him in every possible way with his work and studies, being his tutor, book reader, copyist and draftsman. The couple sat in silence for about five minutes until Vera was the first to speak. She asked what happened to the job, whether she was accepted, and wanted her husband to tell her everything. Nikolai reacted sharply and in a nervous voice told his wife that they had not accepted the job. Almazov was very angry because his job was not accepted because of the stain.

At first Vera did not understand what had happened, after which her husband told her how he had been working late in the evening and was very tired. The plan turned out to be very good and neat, but at the very end Nikolai’s hands began to shake and he put a stain on the paper. I tried to clean it, but I smeared it even more. Nikolai decided to draw trees in that place, and in the end everything turned out very well. During the inspection, the professor noticed the presence of bushes and began to ask where they were from in the drawing. So an argument ensued, as a result the professor was ready to go to that area to make sure that there were no bushes there. Verochka was probably even more upset than her husband. She thought about how to help him.

As a result, the wife goes to the pawnshop and hands over all the jewelry that she found in her possession. She wanted to use the money she received to buy vegetation and plant it in that place. Arriving at the gardener, they start a conversation and the gardener recommends buying a lilac bush. The couple, after listening to the man, buy a lilac bush and go to that area to plant vegetation there. The next day, the husband had to go back to hand in his work. Vera was very worried and waited for her husband. In the end, it turned out this way: the professor, who arrived at the place where the bush actually was, was very surprised and apologized. After that, he gave the go-ahead for this area plan. This incident brought the couple closer and made them happy, because it turned out the way they wanted. Now lilac will truly become their favorite tree.

Plot

For two years, the young officer Nikolai Almazov tried in vain to enter the Academy of the General Staff and only on the third attempt did he realize his cherished dream. He already thought about giving up this idea, but his wife Vera always supported him, who helped him achieve his goal.

One day, coming home, upset Nikolai told Vera that he had made an unfortunate mistake. While working on an instrumental plan of the area, he accidentally made an ink on the finished work. In order not to redo the voluminous work, Almazov decided to draw a bush in place of the spot. A stern elderly professor, very familiar with the area, began to assert that there was no trace of any bush there. In turn, Nikolai, driven into a corner, began to prove the opposite. As a result, the professor decided to go to this place in the morning and make sure of the presence or absence of the ill-fated bush. Nikolai told his wife all this. He was ready to cry: if the professor caught him in a lie, he could say goodbye to the academy and his future career.

Verochka, having heard the sad story, began to think about how to help her beloved husband. Since the young family was not rich, the girl collected all her jewelry and took them to the pawnshop, and then with her husband went to the gardener. With great difficulty, the couple managed to persuade him to sell them a lilac bush at night and plant it in the very place where Nikolai placed the ink.

To his great surprise, the professor saw a bush that had not been here until recently. He had no choice but to accept Almazov’s work. The teacher decided that he was getting old and it was time for him to retire.

Happy Nikolai hurried home to share the good news with his wife. Verochka was very happy and said that from now on lilacs are her favorite flowers.
