She found out that Nikolai, while drawing a project for the exam, left a blot out of fatigue and corrected it to look as if trees were growing in this area.
However, the teacher was a pedant (Nikolai referred to the teacher’s German origin), he knew this area very well and stated that there were no bushes there, to which Almazov entered into an argument. But when she went to meet her husband, she saw his happy face and bouncing gait and immediately understood everything. Nikolai, of course, was covered in dust, wanted to sleep and was dying of hunger, but the victory made him forget about everything. When the Teacher got there, he looked at the bushes for a long time, even picked a leaf and tasted it. He asked Nikolai what kind of trees these were, Almazov replied that he did not know, and suggested that they were birch trees. The teacher apologized to Nikolai, citing the fact that he must be old and his memory is failing.
