The image and characterization of Mite in the play At the Bottom of Gorky, essay
One of the main characters of the work is Tick, who lives in a rooming house with his wife Anna, who is dying.
The writer presents the hero as a middle-aged man, an unemployed mechanic, closed and unsociable by nature. Negative qualities prevail in the character of Tick, expressed in his anger and hatred of people, lack of feelings of compassion, generosity and pity.
The tick lives in a shelter with his wife, who is mortally ill and exhausted from consumption that has tormented her. Anna’s terrible condition is due to the attitude of her husband, Kleshch, towards her, who provoked her illness with regular humiliations, beatings and unwillingness to take care of her loved one.
In Kleshch's dreams there lives the hope of returning to normal life, which, in his opinion, consists of hard work, so the man believes in solving his problem of finding a job. The tick diligently makes metal products, thinking that he will be able to sell them. Kleshch considers all the inhabitants to be the dregs of society who do not want to do anything to get out of the bottom of life, condemning their way of spending time with intolerance.
The residents of the shelter do not share the thoughts of Kleshch, which leads to constant quarrels and discord among the inhabitants. In addition, his sickly wife is a burden for Kleshch, constantly asking him for a little attention, which he angrily refuses to Anna, showing extraordinary callousness. Dying Anna begs her husband to talk calmly without swearing, to which Kleshch only brushes it off, telling her about constant whining, and the request of the sick woman, choking from coughing, for fresh air is completely ignored, fearing for her own health.
Indifference with individual manifestations of cruelty are the distinctive character traits of the hero, who even worries about the death of his wife only because of the upcoming funeral expenses.
At the end of the play, Kleshch begins to realize that his hopes are not destined to come true and he has to come to terms with his situation and the harsh reality of life, agreeing to spend all his time drinking with Satin, talking about the uselessness of his work and his own uselessness in this world. The tick finds himself on the same level as the rest of the residents of the shelter.
By portraying the image of the Tick in the work, the writer reveals the cruel truth of reality about the lack of human faith in a just existence.

Klesch (At the bottom of Gorky)
Option 2
Gorky wrote a lot of different works that are studied at school and are popular. One of the main characters in the work “At the Bottom” is Tick. If before they lived happily and well, now real trouble has been imposed on them. It turns out that his wife became very ill, and no one could help him, although they tried to do everything in their power.
More than anything else, the Tick hates the people who are next to him. And he wants to be alone one day, and only then will he feel great. He has practically no friends, and he solves all his problems himself. There was never a time when he felt sorry for someone or suggested what they should do or how to get out of this or that difficult situation.
They live in the same house and the husband tries to do everything to cure or alleviate his wife’s illness. Recently my wife contracted consumption and since then no one has been able to cure her. Previously, he always humiliated and insulted his wife, and if he did not do this, then life became boring and monotonous. In addition, sometimes it got to the point that the wife received fists.
He constantly thinks that he will soon be offered a good job. He perfectly knows how to create various objects using metal and then sell them profitably and at high prices. A family lives next to him, but he doesn’t consider them people, because they are trash, and you can’t communicate with them. The tick constantly thinks, and even speaks openly, about the fact that all of humanity has found itself at the very bottom and is doing nothing to rise from it.
Of course, the neighbors don’t like this at all and as a result, various scandals arise between them. More than anything in the world, he wants to get rid of his wife and become a free man. And the wife wants him to at least now show her respect and love, but the husband just brushes it off. Anna also constantly asks him to talk a little more gently with his neighbors and not quarrel with them, but the man did not want to listen to anything and believed that he was doing everything right. The wife has not gone outside for a long time, but she needs fresh air, and therefore she often asks her husband to open the window, but the husband believes that she does not need this at all and this is just her whim, which he is not going to fulfill.
He doesn’t know what to do when his wife dies, but he needs to spend money on her and this scares him most of all. A little later he realizes that he will never have a better life. And against this background, he and his neighbors begin to drink a lot of vodka. And with his behavior he is only going downhill, and no one can stop him. And when he gets drunk, he tells everyone about his life. And nothing can help except vodka, which he drinks every day.
Essay about Tick
Gorky wrote a huge number of different and very interesting works. And one of them is “At the Bottom”. Here the main character is the Tick. He has a beloved wife who is very sick. Many doctors tried to cure her, but nothing worked and now she is in the last stage of the disease and will die very soon. He tries to spend every minute next to her so as not to waste time and enjoy the last minutes.
This is a middle-aged man. He works as a mechanic, but lately there has been virtually no work, so he is always at home. He has no friends, but that’s all because he doesn’t want to communicate with anyone. And all because he simply hates them and tries to show it right away. And even if a person has some kind of grief, he still expresses hatred for everything that he does or wants to do.
If he had spent more time with his wife and cared for her, then maybe nothing like this would have happened to her. And now it’s too late to decide or change anything. And he doesn’t want to change anything anymore, because he likes life this way. In addition, there were times when his wife suffered greatly from him, and he even raised his hand to her several times, but his wife loved him very much and therefore forgave him everything.
He often thinks about how he organizes his personal life, and he also wants to find a good and well-paid job. In his free time, he makes interesting things from various materials, which he then uses in everyday life. He is confident that other people besides himself will like these things, and they will be able to buy them at a favorable and expensive price. He can't even communicate with his neighbors and constantly quarrels with them. He openly tells them that they have no place at all in our society. He also believes that all people live at the bottom and cannot and do not even want to change anything in their lives.
And although the neighbors do not agree with him and even hate him, they cannot do anything to get rid of him. More than anything else, he wants to quickly get rid of his wife, who is preventing him from moving on and bringing justice to other people. She wants to stay with her beloved as much as possible in the end, but he doesn’t want this at all and therefore he tries in various ways to get rid of it. Often his wife asks him to open the window in order to ventilate the room, but Kleshch is afraid that this might cause him to catch a cold and therefore does not fulfill his wife’s requests. Besides, he doesn’t know where to get money for his wife’s funeral, and he doesn’t want to spend his own money.
At the end of the work, he finally understands that all his dreams that are in his head will never come true. And he has to come to terms with such a life.

Essay about Andrey Klesch
Andrei Dmitrievich Kleshch is one of the minor characters in the work of Maxim Gorky, an example of classical Russian literature, a play called “At the Lower Depths”.
He is 40 years old and works as a mechanic for pennies. Since childhood, Andrei has been accustomed to hard work, he is extremely proud of himself and despises lazy people, slackers and thieves, considers their actions and way of existence base and stupid. He judges and does not understand the people who surround him. At the beginning of the play, the man sincerely believes that only through hard and honest work can one achieve a high financial position and a decent standard of living, his most cherished desire is to escape from hopeless poverty at any cost, for the sake of his goal the mechanic is ready to do anything. But Kleshch changes his beliefs when he loses his job and his desire for a better life is not crowned with the success he expected, the man loses faith in himself and justice.
Andrey has a wife, Anna, who suffers from consumption. The couple are very poor, dress in rags, cannot afford even the necessary material goods and live in a shelter for the poor, owned by the Kostylev family. Kleshch and Anna have been there for six months already; among the inhabitants of this institution, its moral values change dramatically. Andrei Dmitrievich has an unusually callous character, he regularly beats his sick wife, is rude to her and even cruel, she annoys him, the man does not feel any compassion or warm feelings for Anna. The guests of the shelter many times appealed to his conscience and humanity, they consider him evil and it is Kleshch who is blamed for Anna’s illness, because he beat her and destroyed her morally.
When his wife dies in the prime of life, the only thing he worries about is the cost of the upcoming funeral. He only has 40 kopecks left, so Kleshch has to sell his set of tools. Then he continues to live in the shelter, because he lost even the meager income he had. The tick no longer makes attempts to improve his financial situation and begins to drink. He has come to terms with the insignificance of his existence and is idle along with the other residents of the shelter.
