- Vasily Terkin
The poem tells us about a cheerful Soviet soldier who, in addition to fighting the Nazis, also entertained the soldiers with various jokes and jokes, trying to save them from fear and panic before the oncoming attack.
A new soldier, Vasily Terkin, appears in the platoon. This is not the first time he has fought. First he visited the Finnish war, now he is destroying the fascists. He fought like a real hero, but for some reason he did not receive any awards. Everyone likes this guy for his stories and the fact that he never loses heart, no matter how difficult the situation is.
Heavy fighting is going on. Soviet troops are retreating, and our soldiers feel deep guilt before our people, who will remain under occupation. Terkin is assigned the duties of political instructor.
It is doubly difficult for the platoon commander, his homeland is ahead. Terkin suggests visiting this place. How happy the commander’s wife was when she saw her husband. The kids couldn't believe they were seeing their father. The woman, out of joy, fed all the soldiers and put them to bed in comfortable places. But in the morning the platoon had to leave this cozy house. And in the heart of each of them there was a hope that they would see each other again. And the spouses will no longer separate.
The soldiers have to endure a terrible crossing. Many comrades are drowning in icy water. Moreover, the Germans are firing from all sides. But most of the soldiers remain alive, but they need to be supported. And then the brave Terkin swims to the other side at night and reports to his superiors that the platoon can swim across the river if they receive help.
Suddenly Vasily is sent to a company of riflemen. Terkin is entrusted with an important task - to establish communication. Having completed it and returning back, he realizes that he will not survive such a bombing, and therefore he must take cover. Noticing a fascist dugout, he goes down there, but there is a German officer there who wounds him. After lying there overnight, Terkin thinks that he will no longer survive. But early in the morning our tank crews discover him and take him to the hospital.
For his feat and injury, Terkin was given a reward. And he dreams of how after the war, having put on a medal, he will go to a party in a village club and meet the most beautiful girl.
Having recovered, Terkin catches up with his fellow soldiers. It’s winter, very cold, and the tankers who saved his life give him a lift. They give him an accordion, and Terkin entertains them with cheerful songs all the way.
Stopping to spend the night with elderly people, Terkin repairs broken aces and a saw. The old woman treats him with lard as a sign of gratitude, and when asked by his grandfather whether our army can defeat the Germans, Terkin affirmatively replies that we will definitely defeat the enemy.
Terkin fights heroically. In hand-to-hand combat, he captures a German officer and is proud that, walking through his native land, he drives away a fascist, and returns alive from reconnaissance.
In the spring, Vasily receives an order for shooting down a bomber with a rifle. He really wants to visit his relatives living in the Smolensk region, and he asks the general to let him go, promising that he will quietly sneak into the village and return back. However, the general promises to grant him leave only after the war, and now every fighter counts.
Terkin had to endure a lot. In a battle that took place in a swampy area, he had to encourage his friends in order to recapture the village.
Finally, they give him a vacation for more than a week. But he cannot rest when there is war all around, and he returns to his company.
But his company is fighting a fierce battle. And the young lieutenant, the commander of the fighters, is killed. Terkin takes command. In this battle, Terkin is seriously wounded. He is picked up by orderlies and taken to the medical battalion.
Returning from the hospital, Terkin meets his namesake, only his name is Ivan. He's such a funny guy. And this is good. In each company now such Terkins began to appear, perky, but also courageous fighters.
Our army is already driving the Germans across the Dnieper. Terkin also takes part in these battles, but we see him as a more serious, experienced soldier.
There is talk about the imminent capture of Berlin, and Terkin is no longer so popular, because the high military command is close to victory, and they are now bringing good news to the people.
Walking closer and closer to Berlin, passing by destroyed villages, the soldiers meet a woman and give her things that will be useful in the household and say that Vasily Terkin provided her with this.
At the end of the poem, the author writes that we owe our victory to soldiers typical of Vasil Terkin.
The poem teaches us not to forget the heroes who liberated our country from the enemy. Learn not to give up in any life situation, be selfless and be able to cheer up a person who is in a panic.
